I'm a doctor. Shocking, isn't it? Doc Really? You know, I've been having this odd pain right here... My name is a little more complex: I'm sort of named after Egil Skallagrimsson's nicer older brother (Thorolf), but used the modern Icelandic spelling for 'wolf' (I was playing a wolf character online). When I signed up for a Yahoo account, 'Thorulf' was already taken, so I added the '-r', which is the masculine nominitive case ending in Old Norse (modern Icelandic would have been '-ulfur'). ...and now that everyone is fast asleep, I'll rifle through their pockets before sneaking out. ;D

You can't put ME to sleep that easily! A friend of mine is studying Old Norse, and posts about it on her blog. Like what you've done here, only about five times as long.

I know it's AD&D but my screen name is from Q1 The Queen of the Demonweb Pits. Specifically, the encounter known as "the Night World of Vlad Tolenkov".

That's awesome. I ran Q1 at a convention back in the 80's, and those alternate worlds all held the most interest

Neat stories here! Carjack, frankly, has little to do with gaming however. Back in college, I was in a couple of odd little cover-bands. The first was "Hypnotized Lobsters", but the second: "Carjack Footpad" was together for about three or four years. Hence, when I started frequenting message boards, "Carjack" became my screename. Funny thing about it: Years ago I was kicked off of WotC's message boards because the name Carjack "promoted criminal activity." So just a disclaimer: Kids, don't steal cars!

Mine was simple - Arminath was the first character I ever played. A magic-user with a penchant for old things, antiques and relics. I got him up to about 10th level and retired him as a PC, but he makes frequent appearnaces as an NPC collector and sage of old things in my current games.

The Red Priest is taken from Howard's Conan tale Rogues in the House. The first line of the story reads, "At a court festival, Nabonidus the Red Priest, who was the real ruler of the city ... " I named my first ever AD&D cleric after the character. Although not my first AD&D character, this one went on to become my all time favorite.

'Sham' is the name of a sentient Golem who aided PC's during Campaign 5 from back in the late 80's. Sham spoke to the PC's via dream (I had a large chunk of that campaign influenced by Lovecraft). The players never found out that Sham was actually only about 10" tall. They did, though, adventure through a high level dream/waking state dungeon called Sham's Furnace.
Anyway, I've been using that name online in various forms for years.

Kesher's my last name. During my years as a high skool English teacher, kids would swiftly drop the "Mr." and just call me Kesher, I can't imagine why. I mean, I consider myself to be the very model of a formal authority figure...
Anyway, it just sort of became my only name for awhile, and the first forum I ever really started seriously posting on encouraged the use of real names, so there you go.
As an aside, my original last name was Larson; my wife and I chose Kesher (Hebrew for a bond or connection) when we got married. Not quite as cool as my friend Diana who got to name herself after Wonder Woman's secret identity, but I'm still fond of it!

Mine is an indirect reference to The Wind in the Willows, by Kenneth Grahame - my friends also nicknamed me "Old Badger" awhile ago, too.

About 12 years ago I attempted to learn Old Norse... Love the Sagas, love the Vikings, love the Norse Myths and always used to use FenrisWulf for a screen name on various forums (and email accounts) until it became popular and I was finding that the name had been claimed by someone else before me. Figured I'd find something unique that no one else had used...
Every year for the past 8 years I've attempted each January to teach myself Anglo Saxon (and have failed miserably every year). I've got a knack for learning vocabulary and seeing Anglo Saxon roots in Modern English, but just cannot seem to get my act together to learn the grammar because of my lack of discipline.
I chose Wothbora (Anglo Saxon: Orator, Speaker, Seer, Prophet, Poet or Singer) as it seemed to fit most of my interests.

Not sure if I mentioned this earlier, but my Pa used to call me Matt Jon (first nickname, followed by my middle name) when I was a kid (especially if I were in trouble). I thought it'd make a good screen name when I first went online in 2000. mattjon was taken so many times though, I got p*ss*d and said "No way, Man, I'm THE Matt Jon." In a semi-rage, I typed out themattjon for a screen name and lo, the rest is history

I started playing D&D in grade school with a combination of Basic and AD&D. I started going to a different school during junior high and got away from rpging for those few years a bit. In H.S. I got back into D&D with some of my old friends. They were now playing AD&D2nd edition and the pc's were mostly 2nd or 3rd level. Well I of course started off at 1st level with 0 xp- and I had so many freaking characters die! Paladins, Priests, Feralans, Gladiators, and more- I tried them all, and they all died in so many horrific ways- eaten by ghouls, hacked to bits by skeletons, drowned in the sewers, beaten to death in a bar brawl, etc. Well anyways, Wulfgar was the character who finally made it. He was a human fighter who acted a bit like a nordic barbarian at times, but was just a straight fighter- no barbarian kit. He got to 2nd level after an epic battle with a pack of hell hounds. I kept playing with him for the rest of the campaign with him being alive and well at 4th level or so when it ended.

Long ago I was registering with an online services (Westwood Online I think) and I needed a name. My name is very common and the names I'd used for BBS's over the years were all taken. In my frustration, I randomly opened my copy of the History of the Peloponnesian War by Thucydides that I was reading and picked the first name that caught my eye.
Dekelia is actually a fort outside ancient Athens that the Spartans used during a seige of Athens. The idea to use it was from my favorite historical figure Alcibiades, so I thought that was cool. Dekelia is the one name that is NEVER taken, so if you see Dekelia in some gaming context (RPG, miniature, or video) it's probably me.

My name comes from waaay back when I was 11. I had started at a very old fashioned secondary school where everyone was referred to by their surname. You had to put your name on your metalwork overalls, so the teacher would know which little oik they were cursing at, so I put B Blatt.
Mr Wrack, the semi sadistic teacher who was a d**n good aim with a rolled-hide mallet and wooden board rubber, said 'What's the B for boy? Bert? You look like a Bert, or is it a berk I'm thinking of...'
Thus I became bert.

"Harp" represents my Irish origins and the "Grey" part because throughout my life I always seem to have had the knack of being unremarkable, apparently invisible even and certainly forgettable in a crowd. I've used the name pretty much since I first started using the internet.

Are you a Mazes & Minotaurs player? I've read it and liked it. I have very little time to actually play much, though if given the opportunity I'd definitely play it. In college I once did a research paper on a werewolf cult in ancient Greece (Zeus Lycaeus - I think) that involved ritual cannibalism an teenagers believing they'd actually turned into werewolves. I've always meant to write that up as a D&D adventure location (embellished of course).

Simple, Thigru was the name of the first 'real' character--that is, one that was played long enough to leave definite memories. Sadly, I went right to AD&D and never got the chance to play OD&D (because, being 13, I thought that newer and bigger was better).

I have an aunt who has a great collection of older vinyl rock albums. Years ago they were sitting out when she was catalogueing them and she had Ozzy's Blizzard of Ozz on the table and a piece of paper was covering up the "B" so it read, lizzard of Ozz. Wizard of Oz > Blizzard of Ozz > Lizard of Oz. The "The" is just to personalize it a bit.
