Is there such a thing in the various TSR B/X based rulesets? There is nothing in the Moldvay/Cook/Marsh sets, nor the Mentzer B/X sets. Did they show up in the CMI of BECMI? or the Rules Cyclopedia?

AFAIK there was never a lich for B/X. It appears in the Master Set for BECMI.

AFAIK there was never a lich for B/X. It appears in the Master Set for BECMI. Thank you. I was just going though the exercise of comparing all versions of Liches from all editions OD&D through 5E (as well as 13th Age, PF, S&W, C&C, etc) and was not finding one for the B/X game in any of the materials I own.

It's possible that the lich would have been included in the Companion Set for B/X if they hadn't rebooted the game. I know someone came out with his own version of B/X Companion. I don't know what's in there but maybe it includes the lich.

I dunno but the Lich is so hot. Like, Ogre 3, Troll 4, Dragon 8, Lich 10. Fight me.
(I'm less concerned with "the rules" than how I want these things to work in my game.)

The Lich appears in the RC as well. It ranges in HD from 21 to 36, depending on the level of the cleric or magic-user when he or she becomes a lich. IIRC, in the Principalities of Glantri, one of the princes is a lich— and he’s also a Scot, having arrived with his clan members through a gate from “our” Earth!

The Companion Set mentions the Lich in the Cleric Undead Turning Table (p.11), referencing the Master Set for description.
"In Search of Adventure" mentions a lich (when returning to town, PCs are asked by children if they fought a lich).
So I guess the Master Set is the first to give the Lich stats.

I may have to pick up the RC in PDF just for the hell of it.
It's interesting to see how much they have varied mechanically from 0E onward. The nastiest one I think I've seen so far is the 13th Age version ("Lich Prince")

POD Rulescyclopedia is great I've had 2 or 3 originals over the years when I was collecting, but the RC never did anything for me (but make me some profit). I have zero to no use for most of the book- weapon mastery/skills, mass combat, "sub classes", immortals, the mystara/hollow world chapter, etc. So the expense of it in print is not in my future. I do like having all the spells, classes, magic items and monsters in a single book format though, so the PDF sits on my wishlist at DTRPG. Someday maybe.
