I'm not much of a TV person in recent years, so maybe this is not news to many of you.
But, I was browsing on TUBI for the first time in a couple years and see that all three of the classic Sinbad movies, Jason and the Argonauts and some other movies are on for free. Also several versions of Journey to the Center of the Earth along with The Sword & The Sorcerer, and others. All of these were free from what I could tell. Most of them cost $ to watch on Prime.
Just finished up Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger. Some great Harry Hausen scenery/sets, if not the best of his creature works. I can forgive a Patrick Wayne and his Charisma score of 6, for the inclusion of Jane Seymour and her Charisma score of 18 :wink wink:

I love "Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger" so much I paid money for a novelization of the movie script at a flea market.

I would have been all over that had I seen it in the bookstore at the time. But in '77 our local bookstore was pretty bad. Mostly newspapers, magazines, crossword puzzle books, and trashy harlequin love novels for housewives (which my Mom read constantly ). It wasn't until a big chain in the DC Metro area- Crown Books - came long a year or so later was I able to start finding a fair amount of Fantasy/Sci Fi, and eventually D&D stuff.

In further proof that our devices are spying on us, Youtube just recommended me this video. Not that I'm complaining about an opportunity to learn about a master at work:

Was everyone left-handed in antiquity, even the undead? I'm left-handed, but not yet undead. Give me time, lads! Thanks for the heads-up about TUBI. Never heard of it. Jane's CHA score has been -- and still is -- far, far above 18. Just sayin'.

Dunno if it's expired by now, but Mazes & Monsters has been on my Tubi queue for a while now. Never seen it...need to fix that...

If you are an RPGer, it's pretty much mandatory at this point to have seen it. It's an awful, yet quoteable, piece of early Hanks oeuvre that sums up the scary (and overblown) Satanic Panic era. Look at it this way: it's far better than the book.

Hawk the Slayer is also on Tubi. Other flicks of interest come and go from time to time. Just have to check every month or two. Dragonslayer, Willow and the Conan flicks were available recently. Likely will be again.
If you put a movie on your list and it goes away, when it returns it will automatically repopulate in your list. 🙂

Though I far prefer and recommend Tubi, one can find some decent free stuff within YouTube’s ‘free with ads’ movies as well…also, PlutoTV (which I prefer for streaming stuff), also has free ‘on demand’ shows and movies as well…not a ton on the following for free but there are a lil bit: Peacock, AmazonPrime (yes, some free stuff without a subscription). Crackle, Dark Matter TV, Midnight Pulp.

Though I far prefer and recommend Tubi... I think the main reason I prefer Tubi is because, most of the time, they have better support for 4:3 CRT televisions... ¬_¬ Everything I've watched on Pluto was windowboxed.

Clash of the Titans came out the same time as Raiders of the Lost Ark. I loved Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger, it instilled a life long fascination with Saber-Toothed Tigers.

Dragonslayer! I've watched it recently for the first time - great film. The Dragon is still impressive. I liked the setting, vistas, nature, castles, etc. to such an extent, that I plan to run a campaign set in this world must-see!

Had somehow missed this in the 80s (maybe I was a tad young) but watched it several years ago now for one our family's Friday Night Movie nights and it was really something how well the movie holds up. Second the must-see!

Time for a prequel, says I! The wizard Ulrich is a great character and needs more development.

I had not thought about doing this, but now I will! There are older versions of the Roku that will output composite video, but they're a little harder to get a hold of. Other methods are a little trickier...a PC with video output might work if you can get the build just right. I used to use consoles, but most video streaming apps have dropped support for consoles old enough to support CRTs. I think there are a few apps that still work on the XBox 360.

Ooh, I hadn't thought of an old Roku. I figured I would research a good down converter, but an RCA Roku would take care of everything in one bat.

I actually came across a fan-made map of Urland some years ago I have saved….somewhere…perhaps on an old laptop. I just looked it up, and cannot find it, sadly. Not certain how accurate it is, anyway. I’d assume that the person who made it at least utilized info from the novelization of the film. Don’t really know. Wish I could share it. If no one else comes across it, I’ll fire up the old PC laptop and upload it somewhere to share. Heh.

Though I far prefer and recommend Tubi... I think the main reason I prefer Tubi is because, most of the time, they have better support for 4:3 CRT televisions... ¬_¬ Everything I've watched on Pluto was windowboxed. Hm. I’m not absolutely certain what you mean. Do you actually mean window-boxed? Or widescreen? On my widescreen smart TV, the only things I’ve seen truly window-boxed are older TV shows meant to be shown 4:3 aspect ratio, like the ‘79 Buck Rodgers or Greatest American Hero or…That’s My Momma, etc., etc. Everything else shows itself in its true 1:85:1 or 2:35:1., blah, blah, blah. If you’re using a modern device but watching on an older CRT (4:3 display), then many things will either be shown in their true aspect ratio, which on an older display will not be as fulfilling and even, often frustrating. If the source show was meant to be 4:3, it should show as the whole display rather than boxed off in any way. Might wanna check settings on both the TV and the device as well. I’ve a “large” CRT TV still for older video games and despite it being ‘large’, it’s only a 28” screen… watching a widescreen film on it is….well…not fun. Smart TVs …even large ones, are super, super, super cheap now. It’s well worthwhile to get one if ya enjoy film. My 47” V-Series Vizio I bought over two years ago for only $240!

Do you actually mean window-boxed? Or widescreen? Usually when 4:3 content is shown on a widescreen TV, black bars are added to the sides to pad it out. Some people call this "pillarboxing". Some streaming services do this the proper way, by centering the 4:3 video and having the app itself add the black mask. Some streaming services improperly re-encode the video itself into 16:9, with the black bars baked in, like this: When a 16:9 video is shown on a 4:3 television, the app adds black bars to the top and bottom (some people call this "letterbox"), so with the example above, you've now got a video with black bars on all four sides ("windowbox"): Just some random examples I found with a quick search. Might wanna check settings on both the TV and the device as well. I wish. The Roku sticks don't have any zoom options at all. I tried asking about it on the support forums, but I don't think any devs actually hang out there, I only got a few replies from other customers. TV is from 2002-ish, and definitely does not have any zoom functions. PC and 360 would have a serious upper-hand here. Smart TVs …even large ones, are super, super, super cheap now. It’s well worthwhile to get one if ya enjoy film. We have HDTVs, I think one of them is even 4K, but like you, I keep CRTs around for video games, and it's nice to watch old 4:3 video on the medium it was designed for (plus, a lot of that stuff doesn't get de-interlaced properly, so it looks a little extra garbage on HD).
