You may recall that Cubicle-7 had two LotR role playing games: (1) The One Ring (which had its own system) (2) Adventures in Middle-earth (which was 5E)
When C-7 lost the rights to the material, Free League picked up the ball and ran with it. Last spring FL released "The One Ring 2E" which was more of an expansion than an actual revision. Whereas TOR 1E was focused on the Wilderlands and Lonely Mountain area, TOR 2E had a focus on the Shire. Free League announced plans to create sourcebooks which would supplement those of TOR 1E but not really to republish them. TOR 2E had, as I understand it, the same design team as TOR 1E. They cleaned up the rules, but they were essentially the same game.
Earlier today Free League Publishing announced that they would be doing a 5E verion of the Lord of the Rings. Details are still minimal, but the speculation is that "The Lord of the Rings RPG" will be very similar to "Adventures in Middle-earth." Release is quoted as first quarter of 2023.

I noticed it’s specifically “The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying” — not “…Roleplaying Game” or “RPG” — perhaps in some small way to differentiate its title from the old Decipher LotRRPG.

Apparently they have two books on the near horizon. (1) The Lord of the RIngs Role Playng (core book) (2) Shire Adventures (a Shire-centric module of some sort)
I am guessing that the 5E Shire content will be very similar to the material in the TOR 2E starter set, but I haven't seen many details on the actual contents. (That's a similar model to what C-7 did with their two parallel product lines. Books similar in content but different in game mechanics.)
Anyway, I'm excited about this.

As an update, I did the KS for this and the books arrived yesterday. Core rules, Shire expansion, and two DM screens. I don't think I ordered two screens on purpose so one may be a freebie. Or I'm an idiot and accidentally ordered two for some reason. I don't think that I will check backer-kit because I'd rather think it was a freebie. I've had the PDFs for a while but was holding off until I got the books. It will be fun to see how this differs from Adventures in Middle-earth.
