Here is an interesting video I came across on youtube about the mathematics of rolling multiple dice and choosing the best result.
Ultimate takeaway: the average result of rolling m number of n-sided dice is roughly: ((m/(m+1))n)+0.5. So for example rolling two d20 and taking the best result the average will be about ((2/3) * 20) + 0.5 = 13.8
