Peloria in Glorantha was a thing before Pelor was in D&D. Keep in mind that Stafford, like Greenwood and MAR Barker, had been creating their worlds before D&D saw print. . The Starter Set wisely narrowed the scope of the world to that same area, it seems. Kind of a sandbox with four or five adventures that don't stray beyond Dragon Pass. Apparently this area is a melting pot of the wider world and hence a good "sampler" of the cultures and races. Dragon Pass has always been the focus of RQ/Glorantha because it is the powder keg at the center of the world's main conflict- Lunars vs Barbarians. I know that the new RQ: RIG (and probably HeroQuest before that) has officially advanced the timeline of Glorantha's 3rd Age and played out some of the "what ifs" that were historically part of the setting (another reason among many that I am not a fan) so I'm sure there have been changes to the region. It has always had many cults/cultures though, yes- The Orlanthi, et al, the Praxian Nomads, etc al, The invading Lunars, then gobs of non humans- Dragonewts, Uz, Druz, etc etc.

And portions of Greg's saw print in non-RPG form before RQ was written... White Bear & Red Moon, 1975. Board wargame. And Nomad Gods which was 77- before RQ1 was published as well, IIRC. If I recall Greg's post about the timing, Nomad Gods was in dev in overlap with RQ1... It's also important to note: RQ1 wasn't written by Greg - it was by fellow members of The Chaosium, Steve Perrin and Ray Turney. (sp?)... It was written for Greg.

I was simply saying that there was quite a bit of Glorantha on the market already (and lore as a result) before there was a Runequest on the market.
