People keep mentioning the artist's name as "Walton". What is his first name?

I love all 3 of them. I'm a huge fan of Walton's art and specifically requested him to do the cover for Amazing Adventures 5e (and will probably request him for SIEGE AA 3rd printing whenever we get there). I think there's a lot of nitpicking and nostalgia going on here. But I may be biased. No, it's not nostalgia. This just isn't my taste. I know a lot of people do like this, so that's fine. Hopefully it helps sell a gazillion books.

I think there's a lot of nitpicking and nostalgia going on here. But I may be biased. I find all three inoffensive but unsatisfying and uninspiring. I'm not sure I have the art sophistication or vocabulary to explain why in a coherent way. They all seem sterile to me. Of the three, I like the MM one the best, which is ironic, because I'm not a fan of Sutherland and have always hated his art for the original MM.

Here are a couple of Walton's other covers I really like (frankly, like them better than his 1E "re-dos")

While I understand that the art in OD&D and early AD&D is mostly what would be termed technically lacking, there is something about the art and graphic design in those books that connects to me on a visceral level. I started playing right when 2e came out, and bought all the used or NOS 0e and 1e stuff at the local shops because the art was so weird. Even though some of the 2e art was really cool, and the books were designed in a much cleaner and user friendly way, almost none of it jumped out and grabbed me. It was honestly the only reason I didn't buy 2e books even though nearly all my friends bought into 2e...of course none of that mattered because we all used whatever books we had and it worked just fine.

Here is, I think a higher res image of the monsters and treasure cover by Jason Walton. I got this from the discord channel that jeffb mentioned. Someone over there said that there would be posters. Now, tdenmark, doesn't this inspire you to want to redo the Greg Bell illustrations from the 3lbb's, even just a little bit. If I look at each individual part, each creature is pretty good. But the whole is less than the sum of its parts.
