Yeah, as far as I know I'm still subscribed to the Amber Diceless mailing list but I haven't gotten any e-mails in a couple of years or so.

Which reminds me... I really like mailing lists. I think they are the original "mobile friendly" way to have long-form discussions, simply because every mobile device had and continues to have an email client. But I think they have declined in use even more than forums.

Alas, mailing lists have declined in direct correlation with the decline of e-mail in general. I know plenty of people my own age who won't even check their e-mail except for work related messages. Personal e-mail addresses are just something you use to register for things online.

Why email when you can text? Why post to one person on a forum, that they may not log into, when you can email?
Choice of media dilutes. Have to know the target to know what will reach.

I have a forum and a facebook group for Elf Lair Games. I have a fairly active (if small) community on Facebook. I haven't had a single post on the forums, and I've advertised both in the same places. It's sad and it sucks, but yeah, it is what it is. I go to your forum occasionally and want to post something, but often hit some sort of "writer's block" and can't come up with something interesting to post. Boards like this have some sort of "critical mass" of posters and if there aren't enough the conversations fizzle. I have no idea how to build a forum up to that point and suspect it's just luck/unluck. And yet, you've done it to a useful level twice. (Trollbridge and OS Trek)
