"Gandalf" being the name of a dwarf rather than of a wizard makes a lot of sense because the name "Gandalf" is included in the Elder Edda's list of dwarf names (the same list from which Tolkien borrowed all of his dwarf names in The Hobbit).

I think I like the original version better, except that it doesn't have that famous line, "Thief, thief, thief! Baggins! We hates it, we hates it, we hates it for ever!" I think I like the original version better, except that it doesn't have that famous line, "Thief, thief, thief! Baggins! We hates it, we hates it, we hates it for ever!" I definitely like the original version better. The chapter is my least favorite chapter of the book, and the original is shorter (and less pathetic) than the revision.
