In Jack Vance's "The Languages of Pao", the structure of spoken languages constrains and defines the thinking patterns of the speaker and therefore dictates the behavioural patterns of the speaker. The languages "Congitant", "Mercantil", "Technicant", "Valiant" allow greater specificity, nuance, emotion, etc within their respective disciplines, so that speakers of Technicant are actually far better engineers, technicians, etc by virtue of using the "Technicant" language.
I had an idea that ability score bonuses gained from the skills tables could reflect language imporvements in each respective area, or that a new skill called "Linguistics" could allow a character to choose an ability to improve by gaining "Technicant 1" or "Technicant 2", for example.
I have mapped an ability scores to each language as follows:
Valiant - +1 strength Cogitant - +1 intelligence Technicant - +1 education
Alternately,
Technicant could give a "jack of all trades" type effect for electronics and mechanical. Valiant could give a "jack of all trades" type effect for and brawling. Etc.
