So I am in the process of debating about buying Barsoom minis or not. Basically, my wife said that if I wanted to order some she would wrap them and give them to me for Christmas.
The big positive is that I read the Barsoom books in the 1970's and re-read them every couple of years. I have a stash of Mars gaming materials but no minis, and have wanted a decent set of Barsoom minis for around 40 years.
One thing that bothers me a little is the cost, as my gaming group isn't really "into" Barsoom -- they haven't read the books and have little interest to do so, they saw the movie and found it to be so-so. None of this is working in my favor. I looked at Mophidius' webpage and tried to make a list of what I think would be "essential" to running a decent campaign on Mars -- a couple units of soldiers, a squad or two of tharks, a white ape or two, a couple of plant men, the "hero set" of John Carter and Dejah Thoris and the like, maybe a bit more -- and quickly I can count up to $200 or $250. That's a lot for me to spend on something that we might or might not play with much.
The other thing is that they are unpainted, which is a negative but a few friends and I have gotten together recently a couple of times to paint minis so maybe not as big a negative as it used to be.
I guess I'm looking for some input from the group. Should I spend that kind of cash on Barsoom minis or not?

How do you feel about working with resin miniatures? I got a handful as part of the Kickstarter; they are pretty, but look a little fragile.

I have no idea. I have some hard plastic minis and some metal ones, but I don't think any I own are resin. Tell me more about them.

Spend the cash! You can always regret it at some future date, if that is required. But it won't be. These are targeted miniatures! Always welcome! Hoy, I sound like a pushy sale rep..

It all depends on how much you want the miniatures. They're for your pleasure, not your group's. You can always keep them on display by themselves or as part of a diorama.
Tip: Use a spray primer to paint resin miniatures. Brush-on primers don't stick well in my experience.
