So I've been talking about the Night Companion for awhile. Just wanted to give you all an update and trace the development of the book as I go so you can get some insight into what you'll be getting. It will be organized just like the core rulebook was (even sharing the same chapter titles) so you can easily reference what you need. Chapter One: The Chosen Few is now complete. It includes:
-New methods for generating attributes (standard array, guidelines for point buy)
-New supernatural species to supplement or replace the customizable supernatural character type in the core book. Now you can specifically choose from options like vampires, werewolves, ghouls, driven, angels, demons, and others.
-New character classes: The divine warrior, mystic martial artist, psychic gunslinger, and spirit rider
-A complete point-buy system for character generation and advancement that allows you to ditch classes and levels for pure customization.

Playtesting continues on the Night Companion. I just made an adjustment on the XP progressions for some of the new classes (the Divine Warrior, Mystic Martial Artist, and Psychic Gunslinger were progressing WAY too slow), and we tested out the grappling rules yesterday, which worked out just fine.
Without getting too much into details, when grappling you make a standard melee attack roll, treating the opponent as unarmored, to grab your opponent, and if you succeed you can choose from a variety of "conditions" you can impose as long as you maintain the hold (they must make a saving throw to escape).

Agreed about fun stuff in the works. I love to see innovative takes on our hobby. The more people playing and having fun, the better!

Thanks, fellas! Yeah, it's coming along well. Being a one-man operation means things go a bit slower than I'd like, but maybe someday I won't have to work this bloody day job and then all will be better

Been awhile since I dropped an update on the Night Companion. Chapters 1-3: Characters, Rules, and Arts Arcane are complete. Chapter 5: Creatures of the Night is setup to get started (I have the list of monsters ready to go). Chapter 1 is all but finalized, as is Chapter 3 (Arts Arcane). Chapter 2, most of the rules have been playtested and the others are under review currently. It will include: 1. Ranged Combat and Range Increments (Optional) 2. Guns and Ammo (Optional) 3. Supernatural Attacks and Access to Weapons 4. Variable Weapon Damage (Optional) 5. Weapon Classes (Optional) 6. Grappling Rules 7. Combat Conditions (blindness, deafness, terror, being stunned, etc.) 8. Jumping 9. Drowning and Suffocation 10. Poison and Disease For the Arts Arcane I have a few new psychic powers, a few new arcane powers, and 45 new spells: 5 of each level 1-9. Most spells are filling in gaps from the core rules. There are also rules for ritual magic, rules for making spell-based attacks (basically, when attacking as a spell, the caster is treated as a Veteran for purposes of attack bonus, and adds their Wisdom instead of their strength or dex), and a few other goodies. Chapter 4, the GM's chapter, is going to take the most work, so I'm holding off on it for the time being. TL;DR version: The Companion is about 3/5 done, with a head start on the 4th fifth.
