I started with B/X and still have it, so it's often my go-to game. I like some of the changes BFRPG introduced, so I can integrate it with B/X. I still prefer THAC0, but ascending armor class really does make solo play go faster.

Been studying over BFRPG and some of the various supplemental material and re-acquainting myself with it. Last time I ran games with it was 2018 during a project called "Year of Basic Fantasy". That year I gamed with some really awesome people, including Ivanmike from Youtube. We mostly did one-shots or a continuing sandbox campaign with a fairly low level, standard medieval milieu. For my pbp starting in January, I'm taking the basic map and ideas from the Monkey Isle module (no peeping, prospective players!) and fleshing it out with ideas from Harryhausen, basically extending the encounter tables and potential treasure to include various tropes and monsters from the movies I mentioned on page 2 of this thread. All the various modifications I suggested for starting PCs will still stand. It will be mostly Basic Fantasy with some borrowed elements from Blueholme and Iron Falcon. Sort of a franken-seventies D&D game. I'll also let each PC pick a professional background in addition to their class. No table or real mechanic involved there, but pick something you might have apprenticed in or learned from your parents in a fantastic medieval harbor city. The fully fleshed out recruitment thread with the specific house rules and detailed campaign starting state will be posted in December and this pbp will replace the ongoing 3lbb poll game. I look forward to seeing some of you then!

I've been working on a thought experiment on how to get younger players into rpgs. I would assume they'd be on a budget, so I wanted to see how frugal they could get. BFRPG is definitely affordable with its $5.00 price tag (with free options available as well). Along with some inexpensive dice and perhaps a few cheap tools, they'll be able to start playing without spending lots of cash. Here's a video about playing D&D on a budget: www.youtube.com/watch?v=wU3FpWnIpHo

I've been on the fence about joining the BFRPG forums. I would like to share some ideas with them, but I'm not sure if some, especially my MERP to BFRPG conversions, would be allowed on those boards. If anyone is on those boards, please let me know if it's okay to do that.

Chris probably wouldn't officially host pdfs of such material for a number of reasons but discussion of concepts is fine.

Thanks. I do have a document about the conversions on Google Docs, which I posted in the Middle-earth forum here. But I can always break it up as needed.

I finally joined the BFRPG forums. There's a lot less activity over there than there is here.

I sometimes post as Tazer The Yoot over there, but not much lately. I had intended to start an Iron Falcon pBp but like you said, it's a bit slow/dead over there, so I expanded my S&W thing here instead.

Yeah it’s mainly a forum to work on projects more than anything else. But the traffic comes in waves over on BFRPG.

I posted one or two of my projects. Lots of views but no responses so far.
