Well, I played my first solo game of Chainmail today. It went well. I started small, only 70 points per side. 35 orcs against 19 each of armored foot, heavy foot, and heavy crossbows. Orcs are tough customers, but they spend as much time fighting each other as the enemy. Of the 29 orc casualties, I think only about 6 or 7 were caused by the human army. I made some mistakes with the morale system early on, but I had that under control about halfway through the game. I need to make another army, one that attacks the enemy more than itself, and try it again. Also, the game is meant to be played on a much larger area. Next time I will break out the 4'×4' board.
I will post some pics later, although they are nothing special.
Formerly going by "Coyotepunc"... I have playing D&D in various incarnations since the Holmes blue book... and a lot of other roleplaying games and miniatures wargames since then. I did a brief stint as a freelance developer for Dark Age Games, and have written articles in Harbinger magazine about Dark Age, and in Signs & Portents about Traveller.
