Does everyone know about the Meta Arcade Tunnels & Trolls game for android phones/tabs ? It's been out for a few years. T&T at Google PlayAll the Adventures (And there are a lot, both classic solos and newer) are free- you can either watch ads for free tokens or buy tokens. I've never bought any tokens personally. Frankly, I think prefer playing the app versions than pulling out the paper versions/pdfs of DT&T stuff :ducks: I love the dice roller in this game. Have fun!

Castles & Crusades - Monsters & Treasure is free at the moment: HERE3rd print. Which was the last B&W print IIRC. I picked it up as well to have a PDF. So between the free PHB and now the M&T, you have all you need to run C&C for free, forever. Pretty cool.

Thanks for the tip. So I was shopping around the Troll Lord's store and found a pretty nice bundle of Amazing Adventures products for $9.99 . . .

Indeed! I've never really played C&C apart from the occasional one-shot, so I'm not usre how much the respective prints differ, if at all. Do you know?

The prints are virtually identical, other than the occasional typo fix. I think the M&T you can download for free is 3rd print, and I think they moved to a color version by 4th print so the layout looks a little different later on. C&C is essentially unchanged since 1E back in 2004 (and the playtest in 2003). As jeffb noted, the PH and M&T books are really all you need to play. We had the PH only at playtest, and just used my AD&D 2E Monsterous Manual for creatures. Then they put out their own monsters with M&T and the game was pretty "complete" at that point. They did put out a CKG years later -- I bought one but essentially have never used it as it just gives optional and variant rules that I never really needed. PH + M&T = C&C.

Well, they should clean up typos and add some errata between printings, but The Trolls are not terribly good or consistent at that They are all 99.9% compatible rule wise. There have been very little changes in rules content over the past 15+ years, just a couple of additions ( like adding multiclassing rules, and some tweaks to the illusionist and encumbrance) over the print runs. It's mostly been layout changes, going to full color, some errata/cleanup. You can take a first print of M&T, and the 7th print of PHB and be fine and dandy. And I did the same as Fin at first- AD&D MM with the PHB. Played like that for about 2 or 3 years. EDIT-FIN NINJA'D ME!

And if you keep your eyes open, they constantly have giveaways, charity bundles, and super sales on C&C stuff. I've got a bunch of different prints of some of their books. ...I just wish they could put Castle Zagyg back into print

Is Castles & Crusades compatible with AD&D? I've heard it was similar to 3e, but a bit simpler (no feats, for example).

Yeah, it's very similar to 3.x, so "compatible with AD&D" depends on how much conversion you feel like doing.
I'm more interested in their modules than I am the actual game itself. Not sure if I would want to replace monsters/etc. with their oldschool equivalents, or just try running them as-is and seeing how things pan out. I know I would have to reconfigure their "Challenge Level" system, but there are already tips out there for that.

Is Castles & Crusades compatible with AD&D? I've heard it was similar to 3e, but a bit simpler (no feats, for example). It is a D20 system designed in the spirit of AD&D, yes. Is it highly compatible? Adventures, yes- Easy to convert things on the fly for monster stats. But the game works off a D20 based "universal mechanic" known as The Siege Engine (itself, easily modded to taste). It is not an OSR "clone" game. Check it out while you can- for now, it's free (If you dig around, they also have a free quickstart with a short adventure and a very brief rules document going up to level 4 or so for the basic races/classes)) Players Handbook (All you need to play, along with the M&T book linked above by hamurai ) HERE

Thanks, guys. I will check out the links. I'm not a fan of the d20 system, though.

Thanks, guys. I will check out the links. I'm not a fan of the d20 system, though. Me neither o.0 And 4th made it worse lol! Which is what sent me running for the OSR!

Thanks, guys. I will check out the links. I'm not a fan of the d20 system, though. Me neither o.0 And 4th made it worse lol! Which is what sent me running for the OSR! I gave up when 3.5 came out. I decided spending money I didn't have and investing time to learn the game wasn't worth it. I really tried to like 3.0, but it just didn't work for me. I didn't have a problem with the core 2E rules (I ignored the Player's Option books), so I happily returned to AD&D and B/X and haven't looked back since.
