Heavy Metal, Epic Magazine, etc. as examples.
What is your favorite of this ilk? What are some hidden gems in print or movies, games or other media?

Heavy Metal mag, incl. Den/Muvovum by Corben, and the HM movie, Fire & Ice, Wizards. Never heard of Epic Illustrated mag. Looks cool.

[Mod hat on:] Should this go into the fiction section?

Epic Illustrated is pretty sweet. You can sometimes find copies on the cheap at Comic ships or eBay. Eerie magazine is also pretty good.
Re watched Fire & Ice a couple days ago via YouTube. It held up well. Need to rewatch Wizards next.

The work of Moebius should also be mentioned as a stand out.

I never saw Heavy Metal 2000. Is it worth checking out?

I never saw Heavy Metal 2000. Is it worth checking out? It gets bad press but I found it cool, watchable. Compare it to other things besides the first movie.

I love Wizards--just re-watched it a couple of weeks ago.
I'm also a huge fan of Mike Ploog (who did a lot of the concept work for Wizards, as well as for Bakshi's LotR), and Vaughn Bodé. Bakshi knew Bodé and basically copied his style into Wizards. Bodé's stuff can get a bit raunchy, but in print, the black and white Deadbone stuff is great.

Has anyone seen 'Painting with Fire'. Any good? Yes, as a huge Frazetta fan it was very enjoyable to watch and I learned a lot about his life and career.

In the trailer it mentions how he had a stroke and lost use of his right arm, then teaches himself how to paint left handed. I still need to watch the movie, find where it's available.

Look up the channel Gorgonaut on YouTube to see some modern tributes to the Bakshi style animation. I particularly enjoy Exordium.
