I am happy to note that Mike's Dungeons has become a Copper Best Seller on drivethrurpg. At this point, that means that it thus far has sold better than roughly 72% of the titles on drivethrurpg. Thanks a million to all who have made this possible.

Did you start on the bottom and work your way up or work from the top down?

I'm a little slow today: I don't understand the question!

I'm a little slow today: I don't understand the question! Did you start at level 78 of the dungeon and work your way up while designing it. Or did you start at level 1 and work your way down?

Ah, I see now. I began on level 1 and worked my way down in order.

Interesting question countingwizard, as a lot of dungeon design philosophies begin with a big picture view, one or more main inhabitants or groups and their lairs and treasures, and then fill in the rest. So, geoffrey, you didn't have anything in particular you wanted to place in a particular place? (I bet that sentence violates some grammatical philosophies.)

So, geoffrey, you didn't have anything in particular you wanted to place in a particular place? (I bet that sentence violates some grammatical philosophies.) There were indeed some things that I always intended to place in a particular place, such as: Each level has an influence from one of the cards of the Thoth Tarot. A thessalhydra on level 76, and Demogorgon as a wandering monster on level 78. Some nasty purple worm encounters. The magical maze with its 5 entrances. A lot of the Great Temple of Evil Chaos. At a rough guess, perhaps 15% of the stuff was pre-planned, and the other 85% was made-up as I sat down to map and key the level.

I plan on getting a physical version of it. It looks really satisfying. Make sure that you look at the book's free preview before you buy. Since it shows every single page, you can be 100% sure of your purchase before you buy. There's only one thing worse than someone not buying your RPG book: Someone being sorry that he bought it.

Thank you, everyone, for the wonderful response to my sale. It has helped propel Mike's Dungeons into a Silver Best Seller. That means that it has sold better than 81.57% of the products on drivethrurpg.com. Thanks again!

Tetrimorph printed the whole thing out before you published it, and let me thumb through it. I know I won't have any regrets. It's a solid product.

I'm not sure this is a "review" of the product, but I have to say that I like what I've seen so far. It's a lot of levels (as advertised) and I will confess that I've only gotten through the first third or so, so if the format changes later on I might have to retract my comment, but I like the format of a one-page dungeon map and a one-page description for each level. I may try to get it printed off and hole-punched for a 3-ring notebook, and it seems like in that format I can print double-sided so that when I open the binder I can see both map and words. A lot of mega-dungeons are designed to go OUTWARD and I have to tape lots of pages together in order to get the whole map. I like the fact that this is very vertical. A lot of old school goodness for just a couple bucks. Nice! EDIT: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- One question, however: in the 3 LBB there is a chart with monsters found at various levels, and the old TSR "Monster & Treasure Assortment" is divided into level 1-3, 4-5, 7-9. Do the monsters in this dungeon match this progression at all, or is there any sort of conversion, or anything like that? I was just curious but I haven't taken the time to look at tU&WA and this dungeon side-by-side.

I was just curious but I haven't taken the time to look at tU&WA and this dungeon side-by-side. Fin, I'm glad you're liking it so far. Each of the 78 dungeon level maps is a single page. Each of the first 77 levels has a one-page description of the level. Only the 78th level has two pages of description. I just couldn't fit that level onto one page. I put all the levels right on top of each other for ease of play. The fancy "levels spreading in all directions" looks cool, but (in my experience) it does not add to the game. This is only one example of my experience that twisted, convoluted maps are good only for marveling at. Straightforward maps are more fun in play. I used the number appearing ranges of the Monster & Treasure Assortments (M&TA) as a guideline for my dungeons. Roughly, each 8 or 9 of my dungeon levels corresponds to 1 level of the M&TA. So the first 8 or 9 of my dungeon levels are parallel to M&TA's level 1. The next 8 or 9 levels are parallel to M&TA's level 2. Etc. I hope that helps!

That helps a lot in terms of getting a feel for the scale. So I can think of it sort of like a 9-ish level dungeon with a bunch of sub-levels. I can't imagine how many adventures would be needed to make it through the whole thing.

It's a lot of levels (as advertised) and I will confess that I've only gotten through the first third or so, Haha, I have no idea how far through I've gotten, because I just open up random pages of goodness every time. Today it's Dungeon Level 20. I would like to protest that I have no relationship with those smelly ogres, though, that's a scurrilous rumour. Random thought which has just occurred to me: why do we add north points to dungeon maps? I always describe in terms of left and right, as most of the time (all the time?) characters have no idea which direction is north.

This is a good topic for its own thread, so I've split off the responses to here: Why Do We Use Compass Points on Dungeon Maps?

So a guy on FB pointed out that when the sale ended the price looks funky. Instead of going back to regular price it looks like you increased the price. I thought you might want to fix that, as it looks rather strange.

Everything to me looks the same as always: $3.90 for the PDF (a nickel per level) $19.50 for the print + PDF (a quarter per level) Perhaps I'm missing something obvious? Please let me know!

When I go to DriveThru and look at the entry my screen looks okay, but the one posted here doesn't. www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1521143848061455&set=p.1521143848061455&type=3&theaterNot sure if you can see it or not, but a guy named Alex Johnson posted his view. It shows a price of $1.95 with a line through it, and next to that price is (in red) $3.90 and this makes it look like it's just been marked up instead of looking like it was recently marked down.

I can't see that facebook link, but I imagine it shows some temporary glitch on the part of drivethrurpg. As long as it's OK now, all's well as ends well.

I don't know Alex. He seemed like a nice enough guy, but I assume there is a story about him? There are good things and bad things about everyone in our hobby. He can go a bit overboard sometimes with things he is passionate about. And he'll make sure you know how he thinks thing should be. That said, I miss getting to play with him sometimes.
