I found this article on arms and armor pretty clear and helpful.
I’ve debated using some of these issues in my upcoming games.
I was watching the Excalibur recently and the part where Arthur is knighted and the knight who makes him a knight says “In the name of God, St. George and St. Michael, I grant you the right to bear arms and mete justice.”, I had a “Duh” moment.
Working on a setting right now and seriously thinking about only knights, soldiers, and the nobility being permitted by law to bear sword and armor. Exceptions may be made for travelers in the Wild because of brigands and monsters but in the Pale only the aforementioned classes may equip as for battle. Just an idea.
