We wanted to go show our film, but funds are low. Maybe sales will increase and we can justify it, or perhaps next year. Can you show the film as a fund-raiser---i.e., charge admission just like a regular movie? Allan.

We wanted to go show our film, but funds are low. Maybe sales will increase and we can justify it, or perhaps next year. Can you show the film as a fund-raiser---i.e., charge admission just like a regular movie? Allan. Allan, you are just nuts. (In a good way) I don't know how the logistics would work. We've been invited to screen at Gencon. We are not receiving any kind of honorarium for that event. We asked about selling DVD's, and our schwag, at the screening but it is not allowed outside of the main sellers room. Our screening there will be limited to 60 people. The premier was around 300. That is a tiny amount of people seeing our film for us to pay to drive, or fly out, and then lodging and food. It really comes down to returns for us and the bottom line because conventions are work for us. Booths at conventions cost a lot of money, how many DVD's do we need to sell to cover the cost of a booth? We are more likely to find someone with a booth and then give them a percentage of our sales at their booth. I will throw that idea at Chris, but so far most conventions are not very flexible on their rules. And none have been very forth coming on sweetening any kind of deal. I must say, Gary Con is always very favorable to us. I feel welcomed there. Luke Gygax runs a very good convention. We also get a lot of requests for showings at x and y place from people who aren't actually directly involved in the event. Lots of run around and time wasted. I love going to conventions. I have several games I love to run too. I can run Tonisborg with OD&D, Battle in the Skies, the original areal combat rules for D&D that do not appear in print. When I ran it at Gary Con everyone loved it. I can also do a Fletcher Pratt game for those who love naval minis. I own Dan Nicholson's collection of naval ship models for use in that. We have also had bad experiences. One con had us in their line up. We figured we'd be the big draw for a small local con. They did not even put our poster or name on their web splash page. Even though it was small event we made up posters, and handed them out to everyone, and spent money to get gear for the show. We ran our own ads online. The entire event was a failure on many levels which I will not go into, and the end result was that 3 people came to our screening and we simply cancelled in favor of emailing them online screeners - the we went to restaurant and laughed our asses off over the whole debacle. I will be honest with you. If you have a product, it is easy to target your market on social media with paid ads. 10 dollars gets you a lot of gamers looking at your ad. So if we consider that it might cost a couple thousand dollars to go to a con that is far away from us, that same amount of money can be used to garner a lot of ads online - direct sales via online downloads. The one convention I will likely go to every year is Gary Con. That is because I get to see all my friends there. It was fun running into Jon Peterson in the hallway with his pancake. And there are other odd gamers, like the guy who remembered giving me his Judges Guild button last year. Gary Con still has that family feel to it. Lastly, we may be an interesting draw to some people, but we are unknown to most. So who will conventions spend money on? Well, the big name designers that people know about. That makes complete sense to me from a business perspective. I think I just ran off at the mouth, err, fingers here. Griff

On my phone, sorry for the brief reply Griff. If you're interested in talking to us to stock the DVDs/BRs at the Black Blade booth, shoot me an email or FB message.
Allan.

I got to play in austinjimm's Contemptable Cube of Quazar. He also published his Gazateer of Planet Eris together with a full poster sized map. That was awesome. I ran my puzzle dungeon, The Opal Eye of Hifflinger's Treasury, on Thursday afternoon. That night I ran the K&KA social game. The next day, Fri afternoon, I played in EOTB's supped up Twisted Stair. That evening I played in Chainsaw's own Brazen Bull (AS&SH). The next day, Sat afternoon, I played in Steve's Castle Dreadmoor. Funhouse! That evening I played in Bill Barsh's Palace of the Vampire Queen. It was a great Con. Fight on!

I played Classic Traveller Friday afternoon Tegel Manor Saturday afternoon And was in the Discos & Dragons game Zenopus made a guest appearance. He did a great job and it was a great game. My wife attended as well and the Tegel Manor and Discos & Dragons were her first time ever playing. She loved it and made sure to ask me to sign her up for next year.
