I'm hoping to revive a play by post game of Original Warhammer ("Warhammer: The Mass Combat Fantasy Role-Playing Game", 1983), and looking for interested parties. It's a very simple system, open and moldable much like OD&D, and in fact I will probably find myself adding bits and pieces from OD&D as we play. I can provide a simple cheat sheet of rules. I'm happy to host it here or on The Unseen Servant, where I used to run it. The setting is my own Hikuptah, a desert region of sword and sorcery. It's themes are based on pulpy weird fantasy like Howard, alongside a healthy dose of ancient historical kingdoms like Mesopotamia, Akkadia, Babylon, Old/New Egypt, and a dash of Carthage, Imperial China and Vedic India. The format will be different this time around: rather than an open sandbox, I'd like to propose a single battle scenario, a brief campaign that should cover no more than a week of game time. It would be played out just like any other adventure, except that your characters happens to be leading armies. If this goes well and interest is held, then I might open the game back up to general adventuring, or start another scenario, or what have you. Here's the original game I ran a while ago on Unseen Servant ( link)—it ended up being a little too ambitious, where I was running all PCs as 1-on-1 adventures in private forums, updating public knowledge with a campaign newsletter. Fun, but I don't have the time for that right now.

Oooo, you've caught my interest. I've always wanted to do something with first edition. And leading armies too! Who could resist.
I'm a fan of the Blackheart novels, not to mention the Gotrek and Felix stories.
If you get enough players and decide to run it here, I'd give it a go. Sounds like fun. Now I want to dig my booklets out.

Hi guys! First, keep in mind that this is the 1983 "White Box" 1st edition of Warhammer, and not the 1987 1st edition of Warhammer Fantasy RP. You probably already know that, but I've had people get confused in the past. I really like Original Warhammer for the way it freely mixes wargaming with roleplaying like Chainmail and OD&D. Right now I've got 3 people at Unseen Servant interested. I know Rossik is already over on that site. Would you be adverse to joining a game there, derv, or would you want to keep it here?

I have no idea. There's nothing particularly special about warhammers as a weapon, but the guy on the box cover sure knows how to use one!
It's supposed to be an evolution off of the rules they wrote in 1978, Reaper Fantasy Wargame Rules, but I haven't been able to read the book to confirm. I played in a game once long ago, but don't remember anything about the rules.

It looks like you're already set up to play it on the other site. I wouldn't want my backwards ways to keep you from running it there if you already have the people lined up. This site is pretty much it for me anymore and I'm okay if I don't play. Thanks for offering. Maybe I'll peak in from time to time to see how the games going.

Well, if I can get 3 people to play over here, I'd be happy to run a game on each site, actually. I have two scenarios ready to go, so I can just run the other one here.

I'd be willing to play! In fact I believe I briefly participated in the first version before life got in the way. Wherever you'd prefer me here or on the Unseen servant, I've got an account there as well.

Well maybe we can start a game here with arkansan and derv (and anyone else who wants in, obviously—it looks like rossik is starting up in the U.S. game, but he's always welcome here too if he can stand being in two of my games). In this scenario, the players will be statesmen of Brahmu, a Grecian Isle type city-state within the the Sultanate of Minaa. Ships from Minaa's great nemesis toward the West, the loose alliance of states called the Amanian Thessalocracy, have been spotted heading this way, and you are charged with leading the legion to victory by repelling the invasion. The scenario will also be time sensitive, since you have three weeks to repel the invasion before the Council votes for new senatorial seats—if you are not there, you forfeit your seat, and political opponents might then recall the legion and ruin your chances of victory. How does that sound?

Very good. Consider me Amyntas Skleros then.

Great, let's move forward with it. I'll need to tidy up a couple of things, and we can roll up characters in the meantime. Finarvyn , would it be possible to drum up a PbP folder called Starbeard's "Imagi-Nations" War Games? "Roleplayed wargame scenarios, played out with old school rules. Inspired by classic campaigns like those of H.G. Wells, Jack Scruby, Tony Bath, Charles Grant, Major Wesely, and Dave Arneson."
