Is that the limit, or are others of us who expressed interest allowed to join in?
I've never used Discord, but if you walk me through it...

Is that the limit, or are others of us who expressed interest allowed to join in? I don't want to post the links publicly. I want to keep this a small and (more importantly) private group. I can't imagine the chaos if I just posted the links on here, considering Gronan is a pretty big celebrity in these quarters. Anyway, for anyone else, please see this post for more background and information, if you are interested. Thanks y'all.

Me? A celebrity? Crom, people must be hard up!
We're in the process of buying a house, which is eating all my time and more. Stay tuned, I haven't lost interest.

Stay tuned, I haven't lost interest. Perfect to hear, Gronan. Good luck with the house! Hope it all goes swimmingly for you. I'd give you a hand moving, but I'm up in Canada.

Me? A celebrity? Crom, people must be hard up! It's hard to find a celebrity who is worth celebrating. Most of 'em are famous for being famous. You're famous for who you are and what you've done. (In other words, you're stuck with it.)

I know I'm late to the game, but I might be interested, depending upon time constraints etc., though I couldn't join anything until August. I'm also hoping there will be posts about the sessions, being interest to hear hw things go.

Is anyone considering recording play sessions for posterity?
I didn't get into D&D until around 1999, so everything was very story oriented, made up as you go, with very basic, if any, dungeons. Learning to DM B/X has been very eye-opening for me, and I love seeing how other DMs (and players!) handle the game.
There are some videos on YouTube of Frank Mentzer running the game, that I've learned a lot from.

I want to think about the setting a bit, and maybe get some more of my books out of storage. Also, I have to decide if this would be a different dungeon from my GaryCon one.

I want to get back to Minneapolis to get the rest of my game stuff out of storage. I want to start this from the "ground up," using Tony Bath's book to set up the world situation before we even start playing.
I plan to get back there in December.

OD&D Skype campaign coming January 2019? Could be a cool way to kick off the new year.

Hey Gronan! Hope Gary Con went swell for you. If you're still interested, I'm sure that most of us are waiting with baited breath to run this campaign.

GaryCon was great, except for my OD&D game, which was an utter sh*tshow.
I am never running D&D at GaryCon again.
I still haven't been able to get all my gaming stuff out of storage, but I'm still interested. I'm going to use the Hyborian Age as the setting.

Short answer: When the referee keeps telling you that arguing in the dungeon is a bad idea and you keep doing it and get killed or captured multiple times, it's time to give up.

That's absolutely bogus, Gronan. Unfortunate you had that experience. I remember something similar happening the year that my wife and I sat in on your OD&D game, the second year of "Magic-Users with Knives". A very disjointed and discombobulated band in which a person kept asking to be some sort of praying mantis.. Either way, it's unfortunate, but understandable.

The referee (expanded powers guild). Soccer handles game detractors with a warning yellow card or a dismissal red card. Anyone ever just booted problem player(s) (complete with the issuing of a red card)?

Ah, the guy who wanted to play a Pe Choi. We both have had to deal with him; he's one of the big reasons why The Missus doesn't want to pay for a trip to Gary Con.

I use this exact same system in my Dragon and the Flam campaign, and Hoo Boy! did I get I disagree handed to me for doing it by Serious RPG Gamers. My players like it, though...

I suppose at a convention as another tact, the GM could just walk out of the room, if need be - and say why. Let the babbler(s) stew for awhile. Maybe on return, they've changed their accursed (uh, atrocious) ways.

I considered telling him I wasn't his television set, and in fact did point out the other players paid too. I considered tossing him, but didn't want to make trouble for the con committee. He was one of THOSE.

I similarly held an OD&D campaign for several friends who grew on 5E, but I don't think they managed to connect with it fully. They were constantly underpowered and I kept providing them with common sense and logistical advices their characters would think of just to keep the engines running, and I would spark and boast them in those rare occasions when they did use their wits and tools in creative ways rather than in brute fights. In the end we just sort of drifted away one by one, but I'm surprised they stuck with me for as long as they had, and it was very fun getting to see them map layouts and considering the directions they would take.

These are all very salient points.
I have slowly and gradually transitioned my players from a 5E campaign to a more OD&D one. This took a couple years and many baby steps. If I had just scrapped 5E entirely overnight and introduced them to 0E, I'm not sure how successful it would have been.
As it stands now, we all are enjoying our "mostly" OE campaign so there is definitely hope. The biggest hurdle was to convince the players to avoid combat at all costs and to figure out other ways to get past monsters besides rolling to hit/damage. Once that mindset set in, things went smooth as silk.
I will say though, that the more strategic, moving parts of 5E combat, is very fun to play in a different way than OD&D where combat is much more deadly and resource draining, by comparison.
In 5E combat is more like a tactical puzzle, whereas OD&D combat is more creative and improvisational where party formations and composition play a bigger role.
