On your way into Cheapside, you encounter an outbound Yacht. Do you wish to broadcast the news from Tegel (you may be the first ship arriving at Cheapside with the news)?

Does the yacht hail us? We'd better make sure the crew is friendly before we pass out any info.

The yacht hails you, "Scrumpy Vixen hailing, Captain Yi Shin, where are you inbound from? Any news?"

Then yeah, let's be friendly and trade information with Captain Yi.

Sure! They can tell us of any local conditions we might need to know, as well.

The situation is getting worse down there, the Lord Pedrarch, commander of the Army attacked Lord Stearns, guardian of the gate (the entrance to the star port) with a company of infantry and three heavy tanks just after we lifted. The squad of Imperial Marines is holding the star port for now, hopefully the hostilities will stay out of the star port.

"*%&$ wonderful." curses Mother. "This is going to make resupplying for the outbound trip difficult. We'll need to move quickly, before they lock-down the `port... if they haven't already." she adds gloomily.

"See," Henry says, "this is why we need that Generate program. With it, we could just refuel at the gas giant and be on our way."
But he calls the starport for landing instructions just the same.
Actually, before he does that, he listens to the starport channel. Does the radio traffic sound normal to him, or is there evidence that there is a 'situation' in progress?

There is some chatter about the war, but otherwise seems normal.

Sharron hums to herself as she oils her revolver... for the 18th time this trip. She happily adds, "Where there's war, there's pay."

What does the Library have to say about Cheapside (or did we ask that already)?

What does the Library have to say about Cheapside (or did we ask that already)? OOC: From the UWP, here's what we can expect:Logan pulls up the Library entry on Cheapside and gets the following... Cheapside (C655655-5) has a Routine Starport without shipyards, cannot perform Major repairs, and provides Unrefined fuel. The main world is roughly 10,400–11,199 kilometers in diameter, and is a Medium terrestrial. The atmosphere has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The atmosphere is a standard oxygen/nitrogen mix, which is breathable without assistance. The surface is roughly 45–54 percent surface water (or similar fluid), which qualifies it as a Wet world. The main world has a general population of 1 Million to 10 Million (P,000,000) local residents, which qualifies it as a Moderate population world. The local government is characterized as Feudal Technocracy, with government by specific individuals for those who agree to be ruled. Relationships are based on the performance of technical activities which are mutually beneficial. Visitors may find the law moderately restrictive as personal concealable weapons are regulated or restricted by local authorities. Technology is described as Circa 1910 AD

TLs are a bit squishy, I see another reference that says c. 1930 for TL 5, TL 6 being nuclear age really is end of WWII through early cold war.
The library data also generally lists the families that have particular domains relevant to off world visitors. I'll come up with names for anyone of relevance and let you know if the library data is current or seems out of date.

Completely OOC: This is one of the things I love about Traveller that so many other RPG's get wrong - throw some dice, look up a terse blurb on a table, and release your imagination. Sorry. Back to your regularly scheduled universe,

Okay, if Henry doesn't get an actual wave-off from the starport, he makes contact and does all the things he needs to to bring her in for landing.

Ok, clearance is granted and you land at the star port.
You high passenger with the 10 ton ATV cargo will book a ticket to Bastinadi, he also books two more high passage tickets (these will come out at some point during your search for cargo and passengers, I just don't want to forget them, so indicating them now...).

Henry will take a look at the security of the landing pad/bay/whatever we're in. Do we have any defenses at all, should a hoard of enraged locals suddenly appear?
Only after that will he relax a bit about the ship and start seeing to business.

Only after that will he relax a bit about the ship and start seeing to business. As a Class C starport, the landing pads have significant berms protecting them, and then the entire starport is protected by a significant berm topped by a fence. With the current state of things, there are regular Imperial Marine patrols of the perimeter.

Logan checks Cheapside out on the Library program and does a quick writeup...

The atmosphere has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The atmosphere is a standard oxygen/nitrogen mix, which is breathable without assistance.

Visitors may find the law moderately restrictive as personal concealable weapons are regulated or restricted by local authorities.
Technology is described as Circa 1910 AD
...which he distributes to each of the crew over their cell phones.
Logan will note that we can only get Unrefined fuel here commercially and there is no Scout base here to get supplies from either. We will have to buy fuel and life support from the locals, so he checks out the local sources to find the best prices.

"Make sure to get the unrefined fuel," Henry says. "It's a scout ship; it can handle it. No sense paying tourist prices."

"Make sure to get the unrefined fuel," Henry says. "It's a scout ship; it can handle it. No sense paying tourist prices." "Right you are!" Logan says with a grin and a nod, "I think unrefined is all they have here, in any case." Logan will seek out a/the Chandler at the Star Port and inquire as to the local price of unrefined fuel and life support reloads for the ship. Yes, the Imperium has set prices for both, but out here near the edge you can never be sure if the locals will honor those prices or will be charging more...or less. Logan will also find out what Jump Tapes are available here. He'll push a little bit, friendly like, about any destination Tapes for 'off book' systems...Bastinadi, for example. Once Bastinadi is brought up, Logan will ask if the people he's talking to have heard anything about that system. If they want to know why he's asking he'll say, "Oh, we heard a friend of a friend visited there and while we're in the neighborhood we thought we might check it out."

Fuel and life support are standard costs, of course you could also refuel at the gas giant.
[OOC: note that you already have a jump tape for Cheapside->Bastinadi)]
The chandler does not have jump cassettes for Bastinadi or any other system without a space lane available. In fact, he has not heard of a ship coming from or going to Bastinadi for over a year.
