Hey guys.
I was wondering if there is a S&W:WB draft version we could see yet. I'm itching to start converting my homebrew setting.

I think that the answer is "soon." :-)
My part of the edit is done and Matt is proofing my work and checking for legal issues. Also, we've had some minor "in there or not" discussions about some of the content.
And we're trying to finalize the name. "Swords & Wizardry: WB" doesn't quite flow....
Don't laugh. It's important!

Cool. Thanks for the update.
How about:
S&W: Original Edition
S&W: Classic Edition
Original Fantasy Roleplaying?
Original Adventures
Caves & Creatures

I just checked and it looks like "Original Edition Fantasy" is available.

I just checked and it looks like "Original Edition Fantasy" is available. The difficulty is that the core rules are also 0e, so "Original" doesn't distinguish the two well enough. The Core rules are also Original Edition... The answer is "fairly soon." I have finished proofing Fin's draft, and I've finished a side-by-side read to make sure we haven't done something wildly divergent, plus I've put James M's edits to the core rules into the drafts. I have to put it all into the computer tomorrow, and then I'll be done. However, the artwork is still in process, and the layout will have to be done. But there's no bottleneck, just regular finishing time. And the name, of course...

I think the name is fine, and describes what the purpose of the rules is. Plus, too much changing is going to get confusing. It's already slightly confusing to have two versions being made at the same time, and people are getting used to the names talked about on the forums.

You know, you can call them S&W: d6 and S&W: d8 for all of me. But the longer we refer to it as the "White Box" edition, the better chance that name has of sticking.
Steve Jackson first used GURPS as a joke. But they didn't come up with a better name and it stuck...

The difficulty is that the core rules are also 0e, so "Original" doesn't distinguish the two well enough. The Core rules are also Original Edition... Actually, the problem is more that the WB is actually the Original edition without the supplements, but S&W has its Original editon with the supplements. So while Matt's Original edition is actually the OD&D enhanced edition, my edition to mimic the OD&D Original edition is a derivative of Matt's core rules and is not itself original. Does that help? Either way, Matt is right -- both rules sets are based off of some variant of the "Original D&D" and so it's not really fair or accrurate to call one "original" and the other not. I'm tempted to leave it " WB Edition" and never quite explain why there's not a box... ;D

I was just worried that S&W:GH or S&W:WB refer to the game of origin too much. But hey, Matt's the lawyer, not me.

It's allowable to refer to the game of origin, but not to refer to the trademark name. Thus, "Whitebox" is fine. GH will not be named, because it's a trademark. The Core Edition will be called ... The Core Edition.

Okay, Finarvyn seemed to indicate it needed a new name - I was just trying to help. Whitebox will work for me.

Indeed, how is this project coming along? Fin's out of town, so there's a delay on the WB version until he gets back. The core book is in layout, probably getting finished about August 10. Knockspell's cover is in progress at the artist, and articles are coming in to James M. I'm working on Eldritch Wizardry Book 2, and I'm done with the Intro module, Tomb of the Iron God. The module's waiting for me to get some art inspiration so I can do a couple of illustrations. Eldritch Wizardry will also need me to come up with some cover art. So, there's a lot going on, but nothing's emerged from production yet. There will probably be a sudden release of a lot of stuff at some point in the near future. EDIT: I'm not entirely sure where the cover for WB stands, although I know Pete Mullen has talked to Fin about it.

What's the timeline? (Other than "yesterday" or "the sooner the better") There's a fair degree of flexibility in the timeline. Basically, Knockspell will be done when it's done and I'm not intending to rush it out just for the sake of doing so. That said, "the sooner the better" is indeed what I'd say. If you're thinking of submitting something, send me a PM or an email and we can work out a mutually agreeable date. My goal is quality material with which to kick off the magazine rather than speed. Of course, both is even better EDIT: Changed "sack" to "sake"; it makes more sense that way.

How about Swords & Wizardry WB and Swords & Wizardry WB + Supp
I think White Box and White Box + Supplements is great.

As to the name, I think we've settled on S&W Core Rules and S&W Whitebox Version.

I'm back. I think my part is essentially done, unless Matt finds some legal reasons why things need to be changed somewhere. Pete says he has some sample sketches for me to look at but hasn't sent them yet. I'm really hoping to wrap this up in a hurry.
