It looks like the update is a cleaned-up scan of the book, not a recreated version like they did with D&D. The file size is one-seventh of the old file size, the type is darker, you don't see the binder clips on the cover or the color of the paper, and the almost-blank "inquiries regarding rules" page before the title page has been added. The back cover has been added. All the pages have been straightened. This one include the purchase watermark; the old one didn't have a watermark. You can't see any bleed-through from overleaf text. Overall, a great improvement.
Still not available to buy, but I would expect that to happen any time now.

Oh, and the new PDF has bookmarks. Which printing of 3rd Ed. is it? Hobbitses and Balrogs or not?

Oh, and the new PDF has bookmarks. Which printing of 3rd Ed. is it? Hobbitses and Balrogs or not? The copyright page says 3rd Edition, copyright 1975, and 7th printing, April 1979. So no Hobbitses, my precious.

I'm so old I bought this online in 2009. [Waits for epic response from @gronanofsimmerya]

Does a 1st or 2nd edition pdf of Chainmail exist? What I really need is a physical copy of the Chainmail rules, but one of the earlier editions might have some better guidance on how to play the LBBs by the book.

When I was first getting into D&D in late '77, the 3rd edition of Chainmail was in print. So this is the one I bought to go along with the rules. . .
