The previous thread was getting to convoluted so I'm starting a new one. Version 3.0 Alpha is ready.
Its now broken down into 7 parts (one for each chapter), Please feel free to add feedback or commentary. Play testing has been minimal thus far. So far it also seems to work for the most part, but I've said that in the past!
Couple of things off the bat: Rename sections to chapters? And Chapter 4 needs a better title, in fact open to suggestions for all 7 chapter title names!
EDIT: I'm also in the process of creating "professions" for the game. I still haven't hashed out all the ideas but once complete I'll load as a separate section that will eventually go in section 1 - Character Creation
This is really similar to a homebrew generic system my group was running for a while. Like VERY similar...great minds. We used it mostly to run great depression era games, but played a couple one shots of westerns. I'm actually going to share this with that group just because of how similar it is. Really the only differences were the Jack was the card we used like you use the Queen, and we had three colors of chips...white ones functioned like all chips do in your game, and red and blue ones were basically free successes where red was anything hostile and blue was anything friendly. Crazy how this is almost identical to a game we came up with and there was no cross pollination. Key difference is your formatting is much nicer than our notebooks of handwriting. Thanks for inspiring me to dig that one out and use it again. EDIT: also our suit rank was different, it went spade, heart, club, diamond.
Despite the passage of time I’ve finally had time to pick this back up and spent a massive amount of time revamping and simplifying the game.
* The Wild Card System is now fully workable and functions on one card per action.
* Combat has been simplified. But still needs some work and testing.
* notion of Defense as a value providing a target score to hit.
* armor doesn’t really apply for westerns but the concept will scale easily to a fantasy rpg.
* ranges of stats increased to 20 max
* professions and advancement underway.
* concept of trump for suits fully fleshed out.
* Luck rules straightened out.
Ideally I’m shooting for the end of the month to have rules 4.0 Alpha ready to go.
Also starting to think about kickstarter and lining up an artist and possibly a graphic designer.
