Just what it says. Now that the OD&D PDFs are out again, everybody write or Email WOTC to rerelease the CHAINMAIL pdf!

An official PDF or one that someone scanned? I can't recall hearing of any released by WOTC, but I'm not always paying attention to that stuff.

He says they've already got one! Are you sure he's got one? Oh, yes, it's verra nice! I told him we've already got one. Snicker, snicker!

I don't remember where I found mine, it must have fallen off the back of a packet. I'd be happy to pay for a legitimate copy.

Chainmail was available as a PDF back in 2001. My DriveThruRPG/DM's Guild library shows it as something I own, although it's not available to download and my PDF doesn't have a watermark on it for some reason (never did).

Just what it says. Now that the OD&D PDFs are out again, everybody write or Email WOTC to rerelease the CHAINMAIL pdf! You can also direct tweet them over at Twitter--that's what I did! I'd gladly pay for a legit copy, as the ones floating around online are not great scans (they're OCR, but without embedded fonts, and the images are really low-res). Also, you know, to support the effort.

Would be nice, although i´d rather the optional combat, is more d&dish to me. I could be wrong but i dont think that they have a scan, like the od&d.

They have scans on Chainmail. I think it was on sale a long time ago. The same as the old scans of OD&D. What they re-released was the OD&D booklets they re-typeset. (That's why they look so good/sharp, compared to the other PDFs that are from scans.) I presume they'll release Chainmail eventually, but it's probably not very high up on their list. I wonder if they have a copy of the source material to re-scan, even. Ha.

They apparently don't...it's on the list released recently for community scanners to help provide.

I'd love to have it released as a physical copy opposed to a PDF!

Just what it says. Now that the OD&D PDFs are out again, everybody write or Email WOTC to rerelease the CHAINMAIL pdf! From what I remember, WotC did release the PDF years ago when they first went digital on RPGNow/WargameVault. At some point, maybe a month or so later, they pulled everything because they were *shocked* to find their products being pirated. Anyway, it was not a good scan from what I remember as it was a giant PDF image of the book. No OCR so the file was something like 60MB or something. Since then, all of their new products have been released as Text and images, making a much smaller file. My copy of the 1st Ed Players Handbook was updated free of charge. Thanks WotC! Now, bring on the PDF of Chainmail!

The original scan of Chainmail was indeed OCR'd, but it was a poor-quality scan.

The original scan of Chainmail was indeed OCR'd, but it was a poor-quality scan. Interesting. I bought the PHB and Swords and Spells (the latter only to complete my collection!) and both were PDFs that contained scan images of the text...not OCR. Both quite large too.

I participated and delivered an impeccable and stunningly sharp scan of the book in a beautifully optimized PDF. I haven't heard from them, so if the one they end up using is even a tiny bit less quality than what I submitted I'll be annoyed. I also gave them the reformatted version I did in the hopes they'd publish that as well. Ultimately though I'll just be glad that it's available for players to enjoy and use. I'm thinking of running a game of Chainmail at Kublacon this year.
