I'm curious if there is any other reference to this river, The Grey Run, outside of the City of Hawks map?
It's not on the Darlene map, but it's quite small. Maybe it was talked about though somewhere?
I thought perhaps the Urt River in the Yggsburgh book might be a reference to it, but it's harder than anything to know what "urt" means. Or any of the other river names for that matter.
My guess was they are some arcane or foreign words I simply can't find, but Gary loved to use.

That was book 2 of the Gord series; was Gary already using alternate place names by that book? If so, then the Grey Run would be the alternate name for the Selintan.

Good point. It was published a few months after he was gone, but it was still a TSR publication. I guess it's legitimate.
That makes me think it's simply too small for any placement on the Darlene map. Everything after Gygax feels like a rewrite of the setting. So it's not included.

I'm curious if there is any other reference to this river, The Grey Run, outside of the City of Hawks map? It's only referenced elsewhere in City of Hawks, per Jason Zavoda's index: Grey Run [RVR] COH - 6,82,139,169 The Imeryds Run appears as a small river/stream/rivulet in T2, so the use of Run is consistent there. I have the sense that there is another Riverview/stream name that's in the mix around the Castle too, but I'm nor sure if it's post-Gygax, perhaps. I'll do some more digging. Urt doesn't appear in The Glass Harmonica or Poplollies & Bellibones as far as I could tell from a quick flip-through. They're the source for many of the obscure pregen PC names from the G/D tourney characters.

Thanks for the help. My thinking is, The Grey run may be the river Castle Greyhawk was moved next to. There are contradicting reports. On the 4 Tors from Yggsburgh. A tor overlooking the city two miles away. Off in the wilderness as a complete castle precincts (where it wouldn't have been overrun by a burgeoning city.
But are any of these on a river other than Castle Zagyg? At the edge of the Selintan? The "False Urt"? (whatever that is). The Grey Run north of the river?
I don't have an issue with a couple-three days of well-played overland travel to get to the castle. Especially including surroundings that are unsafe where humanoids and other nefarious beings can dwell without too much interference. A two mile walk away 200 years on from a metropolitan city is harder to justify.
In the end I know I'm going to just find a way for everything to make sense. So lots of castles! (or ruins) But I want to nail down the facts beforehand. Thanks again.

The Grey Run is certainly a different river than the Selintan, as both are marked on the City of Hawks map.
The False Urt River is a river that is often mistaken for the Urt River.
