Is anyone here very active on there? I like using the site for reference often, but haven't quite 'got it' for forum use.
Do you have to somehow earn or pay for the right to have an avatar?
Thanks

It's tremendously complex and I've given up several times on trying to actually use it. Great resource, though.

I use it as a resource. I tried doing the forum thing for a while, but I had nothing to add to most discussions, so I stopped. Not enough of a board game fanatic (or social media fanatic, I would guess...)
You need to pay 30 Geekgold for an avatar. I don't remember how you get geekgold, but that's the way it is.

I have used BGG heavily in the past, but not so much the past 5-6 years. If you need geekgold for an avatar,I can help you out. I stopped using the forums because it definitely revolves around "cult of the new."

In its complexity, it still doesn't hold a candle to consimworld CSW. Gosh that site makes me want to give up on communicating about wargames online it's so terrible.

Hah, being someone with usenet posts about wargames and miniatures harkening back to the '93-'94 era, I am well aware of those BBS/early public internet style systems. But, CSW is just bonkers. haha

I can't figure out how to add a rating to a game or comments on a game, anyone know? Maybe I don't have the status ability yet? Anyone know how much geekgold it takes to create an avatar or ways I could acquire geekgold to be able to do so? Thanks

I use BGG frequently, and have a bunch of avatars, but they've all been earned by writing reviews, uploading files, creating session reports, et cetera. I've never tried rating a game

Looks like the geek has sort of overhauled it's web layout/design. I am still getting used to where the new buttons are..

I mostly just look for rules updates at Boardgamegeek. I managed to rate one game, but it was a painful process. I spend a lot more time at Consimworld.

Anyone have experience selling on the BGG marketplace?
I put up a game today for sale. We'll see how it goes. If goes well may put up some more.
Any do's & don'ts? Do they take some kind of cut?

I purchase pretty often from BGG. Mostly for OOP or Imports. What did you end up posting for sale? Anything cool?

I am in the process of trying to clean/organize my game roon, yet again. Came across a game I didn't realize I had and looked it up on bgg and it is worth a few bucks www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/8160/illuminati-crime-lords so I put it up for sale. I have bought quite a few times thru there. Would be nice to clear out some shelf space

I have 100 sales on BGG so I could offer some advice. BGG does take a 3% cut but they won't send you an invoice for it until you exceed $2.00. You can pay a lesser fee any time via the marketplace dashboard. Photos are free to upload so it doesn't hurt to have some (photos are much easier and faster than eBay). In fact, listing items is much faster all around. Make sure you grade your item accurately via the BGG scale (you are required to do so for all listings). Perhaps common knowledge but I'll mention it anyway: Never ship without insurance to purchase price. Priority mail will cover this in most cases ($50). A thorough description never hurts, especially for vintage/collectible items. Edited to add: I should also mention there is a BGG user's guide if anyone is interested in checking it out (including marketplace buyer and seller info). boardgamegeek.com/wiki/page/Guide_To_BoardGameGeek

Sold my 1st game on BGG today. A game I had put up some months back (Imperial Sunset). Transaction smooth so far , guy already paypalled me. Shipping it tomorrow. This seems like a nice way to thin a collection with minimal effort. I am going to put up some more stuff that hasn't hit the table or that I no longer feel the need to possess..
