So, for various reasons I’ve decided to scrounge around and see if I can get the pre-PRESTAGs tactical games; Phalanx and Armageddon arrived this week... Nice! I have Dark Ages, Armageddon and Phalanx. The other two command a bit too much money.

Using my Zuntzu module I have been working on, the battle of Crecy 1346, King Edward III vs King Philip VI en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Cr%C3%A9cyMy setup, French forces are in column of march following the English army which they have caught outside the city of Crecy. The English have prepared their defensive position on a low hill with small holes (divots?) in front of their positions to breakup a cavalry charge. The French plan of attack, The Count of Alencon will charge the English left and King John of Bohemia will attack the English right, the Genoese crossbowmen will skirmish to the front of the English.

Renaissance of Infantry showed up today. Happily it had the rules; the online download copy I could find was a bit oddly scanned. Now to find some time to try these...

I've always wanted to track down a copy of this one. It predates Chainmail and even has a "fantasy" scenario from Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen (in name at least, if not in detail).

Renaissance of Infantry showed up today. Happily it had the rules; the online download copy I could find was a bit oddly scanned. Now to find some time to try these... Nice. I've always wanted to track down a copy of this one. It predates Chainmail and even has a "fantasy" scenario from Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen (in name at least, if not in detail). It does. That one is the one scenario that needs the castle that is on the cut out counter sheet and wasn’t part of the die-cut cardboard counters. Since those sheets were not included with this purchase, it’d be the online printouts for that... After two days of sitting at my local post office (wonder why, but would generally not want to beat on them for service throughout the pandemic), my copy of Centurion arrived today, so I am hoping to dig in a bit and see what I missed back in the day. I’m off from work all next week, and our Thanksgiving preparations will be pretty laid-back, since my wife and I are neither hosting nor going anywhere in the current situation. Hard to believe that Centurion was issued with the January ‘71 Strategy and Tactics. I was about to join the hobby in the next few months after that, with the discovery of Terence Wise’s book Introduction to Battle Gaming, but it was still a couple of years short of my first subscription to S&T, and Gygax wasn’t due to publish “Swords and Sorcery in Wargaming” for some months beyond that (which was the first I heard of D&D). They were some exciting years.

Wow...almost a month and I still haven’t actually laid out a game. Hopefully there will be a little more time after actual Christmas...
