What it says on the tin.
Some time last year, I think, I remember finding out about someone doing a 70's setting for Traveller, where the cold war went hot, and the "Star Wars" became more than just theoretical. For sure, it was someone's blog, so is anyone able to point me in the right direction? Apparently 'Reds & Rocket Ships' isn't it...

I haven't heard of that one, but I also like the idea.

I don't remember hearing about that. Sounds like Traveller: 2300. ;-).
That could make for an interesting sector. Need to think on that for a while.

Could be Traveller 2300 (renamed 2300 AD to avoid confusion with the original Traveller game), since it was set in the same universe as Twilight 2000.

That doesn't sound familiar, but I do seem to recall an outline to a campaign where the players were trying to assist a balkanized TL5 or 6 culture get into space. I think it was in an old issue of Challenge.
For additional inspiration, watch the anime "Wings of Honneamise". Actually, you don't need an excuse: just watch it.

Super spaced on this thread, though I thought the board would notify me of responses.
Anyhoo, as I can recall it was certainly being ran on CTraveller, and not 2300. There didn't seem to be much talk about the TL or stats for space craft, but one thing that really stood out for me, was that the guy put a bunch of work into designing a space military that didn't just seem like a space navy. And the terminology followed suit, so there wasn't any 'frigates' or 'cruisers' for example.
I'll look into that, Thorulfr. Seems right wicked just from the stills.
Regardless, I think I might need to run a 70's era Traveller campaign at some point after we're done moving to the new place.
Hell, we'd still be able to get away with having personal "laser" weapons. The cosmonauts had their flashbulb pistols, never mind normal side arms.

It sounds like you are describing 1984: Red Stars and Rockets on Doc Grognard's blog. The pitch: What if: Most of the dreams of solar system travelling ships designed by the buzz-cut engineers of the 1950’s came true on the timelines they planned ? What if: Man on the Moon by 1960, moonbase by 1965, mars by 1970, inner and outer planets exploration by the 1980’s. What if the engine that drove this wasn’t science or exploration, but rather the conflict of a simmering cold war, and the death struggle between the two superpowers and their ideologies ?Your last post about it not being space navy seems to cinch it: Finally, and this is just for my own dogheaded preferences, for a change, lets posit a space based military force without nautical Hornbloweresque wooden ships and iron men Space Navy sensibilities ‘fer heavens sake. The United States Aerospace Force vs. the Soviet Rocket Forces. No cruisers, admirals, dreadnaughts, marines, bridge, boatwains, etc.

That works for me. My SF campaign also uses the air force instead of the navy as the space military.
