A plot I'm working on involves a job from a businessman who will pay them for transporting cargo. In reality, the cargo is a human smuggling operation, in conditions that make low passage seem luxurious. If the PCs are oblivious one of the people will die. Somehow, the police on the planet they're going to has been tipped off about the operation...

I've gotten quite a start on my own sector, but the JG ones are also calling to me.
For my own universe I've thought of ripping off, shamelessly, NCIS. Navy cops drawn from different "classes" but familiar with military protocol. It also allows a better integration with supplement 4 characters. This is important because when I ever do get to run I'll only be using Bk1 and Supp 4 for generation. None of the expanded classes.

I'll probably borrow maps from 2300 AD or even Star Frontiers. I still have a lot of maps I drew as fantasy settings; I can use those for the game. I rolled up a bunch of army characters. I originally made them mercenaries, but I may instead use them as a military police force, like the Carabinieri. Either way, the plot hook is that the soldiers are tasked with putting down an insurgency in a backwater area. The PCs may be on either side of the conflict. Some rules for generating police characters here: www.freelancetraveller.com/features/rules/chargen/ctmtcop.html

I use Spica Publishing's Outer Veil www.drivethrurpg.com/product/96124/Outer-Veil?manufacturers_id=2474It's set in 2159 and human centric. There are no aliens and space travel is still new. I find when I do ref sci fi I prefer something closer to hard sci fi. Very little to no aliens, same with sci powers. Here's a little bit from the intro It's 2159 and the frontier needs you!
The Federated Nations of Humanity (FNH) government and the corporations, as mighty as they are at the Core Worlds, cannot act directly on the Frontier, which is a month or more away even for the brand-new Jump 2 couriers. To exert their power to these distant stars, they need you to go there on their behalf and act as their eyes, ears, and hands away from home. The FNH government needs reliable administrators who can think on their feet, loyal military officers to project its force, and determined Justice Commission agents to uphold the law where the colonial authorities cannot.
The setting hints a possible aliens though alien ruins found on new discovered worlds, but it doesn't get into specifics it gives the GM a lot of room to work with.

That sounds like an interesting setting. Humanity isn't unified in my current setting, but that may change in my new setting.
For some reason, I have the urge to base any aliens in the campaign on the Coneheads and Mork from Ork. Maybe Uncle Martin from My Favorite Martian as well.

On a more serious note, remember the old series "The Invaders"? The aliens looked human, and the only way to identify them was their inability to flex their pinkies. They also disintegrated when they died, so no evidence of them remained. Bad enough when only Earth was being invaded, but what if entire star systems have been infiltrated? How many planets have fallen to the aliens? Are any governments collaborating with the aliens? Are they trying to incite a war among the human star systems?
