You know, with this fantastic book on the way... A copy of the Judges Guild Ready Ref Sheets, and (I think; As I don't have a copy nor have I seen it) the old TSR Monsters & Treasures assortment, one could simply play this game for all eternity! Haha. In all seriousness, the PoD as a physical copy matched with the ready ref sheets are going to hugely simplify my ability to play and write some stuff up for this game. I can't wait for them to show up.

Received my two copies yesterday. Probably the fastest I've gotten something printed and shipped from Lulu. Quality is on-par with my other softback purchases.

FYI, since it's unrelated to the POD edition, I've just moved a couple of posts about the Brave Halfling boxed set to here.

The book looks great...I wasn't sure about the black logo-on-dark background, but it turned out really cool. Not that such a thing would keep me from buying it, of course. Also liked how the woodgrain box and outdoor survival are just kind of chilling in the background of the shots.
Thanks for the pics Ways

Got my copies in yesterday, I think the POD edition turned out great!
I also wasn't sure of the dark logo on dark cover, but looking at it in person I think it works. And I like how the cover artwork for the three booklets was retained within the compiled book. I am happy to see that the dimensions of the book matches those of the original D&D booklets. Seeing that they were going to be perfect binding made me afraid that the size would be off. I've noticed that some other perfect binding softcovers I've ordered from Lulu lately were shorter and wider, instead matching the size of the WotC OD&D re-print.
From a quick flip-through everything looked good inside, I appreciate the inclusion of the coarse-grained advancement on the Attack Matrix (Table 2.8). I did notice that it seems all instances of "1/2" printed oddly, at least in Table 1.9 on page 14 and Table 3.1 on pages 83-88.

Glad you like it capitalbill I did notice that it seems all instances of "1/2" printed oddly, at least in Table 1.9 on page 14 and Table 3.1 on pages 83-88. That's odd... I just checked my copy and the "half" glyphs look to be perfectly well formed in tables 1.9 and 3.1--I'll post photos tonight. Perhaps this is a quirk of a specific printer that Lulu uses?

Here's what mine looks like: Almost worth reporting to Lulu that different printers are producing different outputs?

Just checked my two copies. I have the same issue. I'll be contacting Lulu to make them aware of the issue as well.

I have not received my copy BUT my home made books from the v3 pdf have that problem also only the "2" is missing and the line of the "1/2" is super long. So it looks like
1 ----
But an angle and thinner.
Odd huh.
ADDED: I just checked my v1 LWB's and the 1/2 defect is not in those..... (Although the turn table says up to 1 HD so it avoids it, but the Monster list Bats Rats etc have the 1/2 and it shows fine.) So something about the markdown that was used?

More likely that something in the printer's system is having difficulty with the 1/2 glyph in the typeface used.

I'll be interested to hear what Lulu have to say to Verhaden. Ideally (from a customer perspective) they would offer to reprint them correctly, but we'll see.

Check the Dragon entry for hatchling cone... In my v3 the first 1/2 is messed up but the second 1/2 is not... Very curious.

Same. I wonder if they're actually different glyphs in the typeface? Might not hurt to take the 1 1/2" x 1/2" entry, copy it, and then do a Replace all for it.

Hmm.. I wonder if some of the 1/2 symbols are indeed typed differently somehow as was stated above then? Like some in bold or some hidden character etc? Curious...

I have raised a support ticket with Lulu, and directed them to look at the photos posted here.
We'll see what they have to say shortly.

I've had confirmation from UK and AU customers that their copies are okay.
So, from the information I have today, it seems the issue is affecting (at least one) US printer only. But we really need to wait for Lulu to respond to my ticket before making any genuine conclusions...

I doubt I'll mind at all if my copies (From the US printers) have this situation; I'm expecting them to arrive next week so I can't tell until then of course. As far as I'm concerned, having two books that detail faithfully the rules of the 1974 edition of my favorite game, that typically sell now for close to 300 dollars due to rarity, for under 15 bucks easily overshadows having a few 1/2 symbols being printed weirdly. Still, I can totally see the concern and the desire to have things 'right'. waysoftheearth, thank you so very much for all of the effort you are putting into this even after the herculean efforts you've already done to make this a reality. You are a giant in the OSR in my opinion. I certainly hope that there is enough interest for the hardback to become a reality, too. I'm 'all in' for that... And I'll spend alot of money to get it, to be honest. This is the only game other than perhaps oakesspalding's Seven Voyages of Zylarthen, that I'm remotely interested in buying now (After DD and Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerors of Hyperborea, I've got all I need for gaming awesomeness). And the teasing comment about 'time to work on supplements' is very alluring! I await further news on this front with excited trepidation

Good people! Lulu have responded to my ticket re: the broken US printing of the one half glyph, and it's good news... I think. In a nutshell, they don't seem to be saying in writing that there is a "problem" with a specific printer per se, only that there are variations between settings used by their partner printers, and that resulting variations are typical of the POD production model. It sounds to me, more or less, like these printer specific "settings" are something that is outside Lulu's direct control. However, they advise that the work around is to not use the affected glyph in the affected typeface in the document. So, they are advising me to update the document to use a different typeface and (more importantly for us) that: if I do update the typeface Lulu will be willing to reprint the updated publication for all affected customers who contact them individually about it. Here is a quote from Lulu's email to me: It requires me to "do more work" to update the publication, but at this stage it is looking like a very good outcome for the affected DD customers. Thanks Lulu So, if you are an affected customer, hold tight for now. A fix is coming. I will post more info as it happens...

Fearghus, I printed these individual books out myself and bound them with a stapler, but I have heard that you can get them printed at Staples really inexpensively. I don't believe they have been made available on Lulu so that might be your best bet.
