Yea, that's a minor rework of the Adventure 10 deck plans. Really the same, just one more chair in the Launch and labeling one of the storage areas as the medbay. Not a big fan of staterooms off of the bridge - poor security. I would move the entrances for the two larger staterooms by the bridge to the "southern" wall (unless they're designated crew quarters), opening into the corridors. Then change the smaller staterooms off of the bridge into storage/ship's locker. Areas 9 and 12 then become two staterooms. Next, I would convert the cargo bay into fuel storage and access to the surrounding areas. The holding tanks would become cargo bays, and the storage lockers and "hunter's suite" would be absorbed into the engine room. Just my Cr2.

Maybe a converted Yacht, Free Trader, or Lab Ship? Or just make up a decommissioned/out-of-production 200-ton "survey" ship with Jump-2.

Mother is definitely a shipboard character. She can pilot/engineer/gun/first-aid/whatever... and she cooks! She prefers to stay in orbit, especially when laid over at a high-grav world, seeing as she's rather frail. So, I'll probably use the Leftenant for rock-side ventures. She's good for bar fights and brute espionage. Frank - I updated the Leftenant's stats to reflect your "Other" service house rule of two skills per term. I'll also relegate Maida to NPC status.

Oh, and if there's anyone who is unable to or doesn't want to log into Google+, just let us know and I (or someone else) will add your characters to the document. You shouldn't need to be logged in to read the document. Once we get going, players shouldn't need to edit the document too much (well, if you have player choice in distributing damage, I'll let you edit it in, but I can also do it). Sorry, don't do Google+.

Hmmm. The errata link in the first doc doesn't work. Also, I don't see SS4 on my CDROM. Ah when did you get your CD-ROM? You can email Marc and get an update for cost of shipping. Thanks, good to know. I've had the CD forever - looks like they updated it at some point.

I've always played CT BTB, with very little in the way of house rules, so this sounds right up my alley. I have the Traveller Book, and the FFE release of all of the CT material on CDROM (so 1981 rules more or less), so let me know if there is anything you don't want me to look at.

Looks fun! Do you have a slightly larger version of the map? My old eyes (even with reading glasses) are having a hard time seeing the text in the map.

Just wanted to say hello and thank Finarvyn for helping me get registered. I know a few of yall from various other spots, primarily G+. I play a lot of classic games, and it looks like there are a lot of really interesting discussions going on. Thanks for having me. Welcome! And yes, this is an interesting place to hang out - great people and content!

Well, by "Oregon Trail" I suppose you mean to funnel players along a more or less linear path.
Maybe create a hex map with start and destination on opposite sides, provide a couple of obvious "trails" to take (e.g. a river, an old hunting trail, ancient overgrown road, etc.), then sprinkle the hexes with random (or planned) encounters. If you keep your "planned" encounters along the obvious trails, they'll be more likely to come up in play. This way, the players get to explore however they wish (without "railroading") and you get to challenge them with some set pieces.
Another option (or in addition to the above) would be to have them stumble upon an unfortunate explorer's map of a previous attempt. This gives the players some "known territory" to work with, and will likely goad them into taking the same path the previous explorer took.

Here's another with the same generator:
(* - added based on Frank's house rule of 2 skills per term for Other - randomly generated from '81 Book 1)

Wow. Looks great! I love the cover piece - very OS.
I notice there are blanks bracketed by letters on the map. Is that some sort of copyright protection for the preview, or is the intention for the DM to make his/her own names up?

Passed that info to the wife-unit this past weekend. Hopefully there's something under the tree for me this year. Jeff: If you see an order from "Roe", don't tell me... I like to be surprised!

They can't spell "Arneson" on Don't Give Up the Ship. While I'm tempted to grab these, I can't help but think as soon as I drop the cash, WotC/Ha$bro will yank the rug out from under Lulu and I'll be down $15. I'll wait a couple of weeks, and if they're still there, maybe I'll get them.

I love it! Charlie Mason over at the S&W forum is looking for 'zine submissions for The Wizard's Scroll. I'm sure he'd love this.

Hey Frank, is it too late to join? I don't do Google+ or any of that social media nonsense, but if you're doing PbP, I can probably swing it (might be a couple of days before I get to rolling characters though... work and all).

Palladium (Rifts and Fantasy). My friends and I played a few games of these back in college. Good fun. And I always kind of liked the premise of Rifts. One of the best things about Palladium is that it was the same system across their games, so once you picked up on one game, the others were easy. Unlike GURPS, where you had to buy the generic core rules then a bunch of supplements to establish a genre, then weed out all the crap you didn't want, all the necessary rules for each game were in each of the books. I would have totally gotten into GURPS if they had done it that way.

My wife told me the other night. Very sad. While I love Firefly as much as the next geek, I'll always remember him in Barney Miller. Yeah, I know, that makes me older than dirt.

Grapcis don't display, but this poor mod's heart just stopped when he read *geek chic*. ...Then I realized one very important letter was missing. LOL. Not that kind of site!

... getting back on track ... I've read a lot of CAS on my Kindle (free stuff!), but I finally picked up a physical book a couple of months ago: The Dark Eidolon and Other Fantasies (Penguin Classics). It's a good sampling of his works if you haven't read anything of his. On a side note, I remember after reading all of the Averoigne stories, I couldn't help but think that it was a perfect drop-in setting for a BTB OD&D campaign. Then again, I suppose his other fantasy worlds would work too .

Elves as degenerate ancient race...

Link to a thread by tkdco2 about "pulping" Tolkien. Good stuff.
I can see elves being less "fey" and more "degenerate ancient race" - and perhaps even evil/chaotic.
Also had another idea for Dwarves: they're actually automatons.. like miniature, lab-grown, emotionless, earth golems.

This monster would definitely fit in Carcosa. I think I went to school with that guy! I think he was a guidance counselor.
