I loved Westerns, still do. I will watch an actor do something and think to myself, I would love to see him in a Western. Since John Wayne died, two of my favorites in westerns are Tom Selleck and Sam Elliot. I wish they had made a hundred of them together. I also loved: The Rifleman Laramie I've loved The Rifleman since I was a little kid. Partly because of admiring the strong character and ethics of Lucas McCain and identifying with Mark McCain. And partly because the intro ( The Rifleman intro) blew me away as a youth. Laramie has become a recent favorite of mine. I'd never seen it when I was younger. And it's only because it's broadcast so much on Grit TV that I've been exposed to it.

I've got a Wotc OD&D reprint box that I'd part with. I'm not getting any use out of it, and have been debating selling it off to Wayne's Books for the past 6 months. Just curious about why. Is it just something you're not interested in having, or do have an original box already? I don't have an original box. I bought the OD&D reprint box a few years ago, because I wanted to learn more about the origin of D&D - the mechanics, the playstyle, what it was all about. My start with D&D began in 1981, with the Moldvay Basic Set. So, anything prior was a big unknown. I don't play much D&D these days - any edition. So, I'm really not likely to get any use out of the reprint box. Plus I own PDFs of a number of OD&D books in the rare chance that I do want to reference them.

Sears and Montgomery Ward catalogs were the "hobby stores" of my early gaming days. My mother ordered my copies of BD&D, Star Frontiers, and Boot Hill through them.
Though, I do remember visiting a game store called "Triple Alliance" in the Bellevue, WA area when I was probably 11 or 12 (1982 or 1983). And being awed by the cases of miniatures, and all of the Rpgs I'd never heard of before. They went out of business a few years later - I recall that my the time I got my driver's license, they no longer existed.

This is the basic set and only covers the Detectives, it is a beginners guide for those who do not have access to the box set. Is the boxed set the full product, and is that available? Besides the boxed set, is there an 'advanced' set scheduled for release?

Haven't been playing too much lately, besides simplistic boardgames like Ticket to Ride and Splendor.
Lately I've been starting up painting minis to play Frostgrave. Working on a couple warbands and then hoping to rope some friends into playing.

Now I'm thinking of selling off my Premium OD&D box...

Been a while since I've thought about this Rpg. I've got a copy of the beta kicking around but I never got around to playing it.
What's changed with the official release (besides the trade dress)? Any rules tweaks or pagecount increases?

What's the status of "The FKRs Manifesto"? I've been looking forward to reading it.

I've looked at RetailMeNot before for coupon codes. Usually have found something prior to ordering from Lulu.

Edit to Add: Here is his video on making an OD&D character. I made it 15 minutes into the video before I got bored and tired of the pedantry. Skipping ahead, it looks like he didn't get to the point of creating the Fighting-Man until 30 minutes in.

I just use characters-that-die-in-chargen as NPCs. Living and encountered.
Traveller death-in-chargen is a mechanic that tests players through gambling. Do you play it safe and be content with a less experience character? Or, do you tempt the odds, shake the dice for the chance at a more experienced character, and then possibly go bust (with a dead character as the result)?
With injuries replacing death, the element of gambling is removed. Why not roll for Survival every time when the worst outcome is merely an abridged term? You'd almost be foolish not to.
I'm not trying to be 'one-true-way' here - whichever way you play Traveller is no skin off my back. I just think it's a cool chargen mechanic - one that's unfairly criticized - and another great thing about the game.

C influenced by both A and B. I steal parts I like and combine it with my own setting ideas.

Welcome kpeterson. There are some Seattle-ites on this board, myself included. I usually DM an old school game at Dragonflight CON in August every year if you ever hit that (Seattles oldest gaming CON since 1980). Used to be in a group that played 1e and B/X at Garys Games until that closed. Hope you stick around and post more Thanks, Scalydemon. I've been to Dragonflight twice in 30 years, but haven't participated in much gaming. I'll have to make more of an effort to attend this year.

I've been reading through my pdf copy of EPT lately, getting more familiar with chargen. I have a question about warriors and the 'specific professional skills' that they can begin the game with.
The majority of their Prof. Skills are rather combat-style oriented: 'spearman', 'slinger', 'bowman'. So, does that restrict, or affect, warriors who purchase and wield weapons they're not skilled with? Is this spelled out somewhere I'm not seeing it in EPT? How have you handled this when running EPT?

I just started reading this book, after seeing some positive reviews. A little shy of halfway through, and it has been pretty good so far.

Apologies for necro-ing an old thread, but.. great thread. I remember reading that original thread on the StoryGames forum a few years back, and it really opened my eyes to the potential of running a personalized from of RQ2 Glorantha, without having to go to the extent of digesting the entirety of Gloranthan background.

I've had an account here for nearly two years, but have never posted. Just lurked, scanning threads for interesting topics. Perhaps I should say hello.
You can call me K. I've lived in the Seattle area for 38 years - moved here from overseas at the age of 5 - and been an Rpg gamer for 33 years. I was more a second-generation gamer, in that I started in 1981 at the age of 10. My first exposure to gaming was when I accompanied my older brother to his friend's house, where we played this fantasy game with weird dice (house-ruled Holmes Basic D&D) - I rolled an 18 Wisdom as was declared to be the cleric, which I thought must be something cool. It was such an entertaining experience that I begged my mother to buy me Moldvay Basic that Xmas - from a Sears catalog, I think. That continued my descent down the rabbit hole.
My formative, gaming-years were spent playing B/X D&D, 2nd edition Boot Hill (mostly solo), and Star Frontiers. As decades passed, my gaming interests aligned more closely with Rpgs like RuneQuest, Traveller and Call of Cthulhu.
Although I plan to make an effort to post on this board, I probably won't contribute much on the OD&D side of things. It's absolutely foreign to me, and there's little I could say on the topic. I rarely play any edition of D&D these days. But, I am interested in other TSR games, like Boot Hill and Gamma World. I also have a growing interest with Empire of the Petal Throne and Metamorphosis Alpha. And if I had the opportunity I'd probably blather on about Star Frontiers.
