Hi All,
I'm back with this two parter again:
1) Does anyone know the date -- to the day -- of the release and sale of the first copies of D&D in '74?
2) Do you have any plans to celebrate same?
Thanks,
Legion

Converting to DCC was more difficult, I would add. I agree that Dungeon Crawl is a slightly different animal. It requires either more intention in converting up front or more willingness to play fast and loose on the fly. Luckily it’s amenable to both.

Yeah, originally I was thinking, let's do OSE and S&W, since those are probably the big two. After son of bear's post though I started thinking, it's compatible with all these games anyway, why not just keep it unspecified, or just claim compatibility with all of them and let people decide if they are OK with that or not. David and I are starting to work on editing already, starting with Alex's Caverns of Slime to get that out to people, so there's time to consider the best approach. Please keep it generic and unspecified. Little, if any, conversion is needed between most "old school" and "old school adjacent" systems and that is best left up to the user and is what makes Fight On! most widely usable. Agree entirely. Converting between all these not-really-very-different systems on the fly is effortless.

I recently discovered Sham's Bleak Beyond Bestiary; it's my current fave.
What's yours?

Not sure what you're looking for, actually. As you say, there already are plant mutations in the game, so if someone wants to play a mutated plant, they roll up a normal mutant character but I let them "convert" some or all of their mutation rolls to mutations on the plant mutation chart. So you house-rule it. Cool. I'm torn between the Plant PC rules from Gamma World 3rd, or from Mutant Crawl Classics. I lean to the former.

Hi All,
It may already exist for the game and I'm just gapping, but what is your favourite way to inject mutant plant player characters into MetAl?
With all the great material that's been created for the game over the years, they seem to be the only ones still left out.
Thanks,
L

...the shaft down from 29 is marked to Level 5 but in the text it goes to Level 7. Thanks to social distancing, this hasn't come up yet, but...I keep forgetting to ask this: Both areas 21 and 29 have chutes going down to level 7, but Level 7 (Palace of Eternal Illusion) only mentions the one from area 29. Does anyone have any idea where the chute from area 21 ends up? I'm thinking I'll just have it link up to the chute frfom 29 and they can both end up in the same place on Level 7. I haven't checked yet, but maybe that one actually does go to Level 5. I'll do a recce. Regardless, I like your solution. L

That's pretty boss, my Dude!
Ha! I was going to draw in the Compartments as well.
Another thing to note -- though not for you now you've redrawn the map -- is that the shaft down from 29 is marked to Level 5 but in the text it goes to Level 7.

Lee Barber has written the Dark Troll Citadel Alex Schroeder has written the Caverns of Slime Simon Bell has written a Snow Throne sublevel for the Deep Caves and I am about half done with The Tomb of the Black Lord of Nothingness. I have done layout work on all four of these levels so all are half laid out at least. I think Lee Barber will be in this issue for sure, maybe Alex or Simon also. Whatever is not in 14 will be in 15. "Snow Throne sub-level" you say? Go on. Also, thank you -- Algolei -- for bumping this thread. I'll give my Hemisphere a read and clean up my pdf as nec. And Terrex, did you ever build *your* workaround for the room connections? I'd love to see it too. Thanks again guys! L

Hi All, I'm converting a creature -- the Book Golem from the Aventyr Bestiary (p43) -- from Pathfinder to sharper, shorter rules. Everything else is coming along fine, but I've one question: How would you interpret this?: "A book golem is immune to any spell or spell-like ability that allows spell resistance." Is it immune to anything that allows a save? Thanks for any assistance, L

Thanks delta and captainjapan! The other thing I really like about doing this is that it makes the six ability scores applicable across the board. Can you swim that distance under those circs? Pick two of the three physicals, average them, flip a coin for rounding if nec (I like to embed luck), roll a d20. Perception? Pick two of the three mentals (or morals or spirituals; whatever you call them), ditto, roll that die. Impose a penalty for difficulty or time pressure, apply a bonus for skill or level, and Boccob's yer uncle!

Thanks for all the replies.
What I like most about d20 vs stat is that because ability scores run from 3-18 a d20 roll bookends that range with 2 slots on either end. So it's always possible for a guy with 3 Dex to succeed and it's always possible for a guy with 18 Dex to fail.
It's really quite elegant.
And, can someone please tell me on what page it is in Moldvay Basic? I've looked and can't find it.
Thanks again.

Hi All,
I've played in games with a few OD&D and AD&D DMs who resolved things on the fly with "roll a d20 vs your Dex" for example.
I like the method a lot.
Just wondering when was the first use of this idea. Where was it first published?
Thanks,
Legion

Hi All and Happy New Year!
Per the subject, I can't for the life of me see the Z that marks the Consolidated Equity Estate Planning Center building on the map of Pitz Burke.
Help a brother out?
Thanks much,

Hi All,
I've been through my copy of EPT and not found it so I'll ask.
Can someone tell me where/when was the first mention of Nexus Points in EPT?
Thanks much,
L

Well, if you start with Tadashi, that's probably a good place to start. He and I were (as far as I know) the last folks to speak with the surviving Gamelords folks about publishing an updated, complete edition of Haven. But that's been like 11-15 years or so I think.... Allan. Thanks. I'll get on that. L

What, if anything, ever came of this possible project? Was the data simply lost, never to be recovered? As far as I know, Janet still has the files, Jon. Allan. Funny. I also just thought to revisit this, again. I've been wanting Haven 3 for years. Assuming we can light a fire under someone's ass, whose ass should that be? And can I be put directly in contact with that person? Modern crowdfunding being what it is there's no reason for this to not happen. I'd like to see it published as close to the original format as possible. And I'd love to have as many of the original creators as possible involved. It seems to me this is only a matter of persistence (re: getting stuff off legacy media) and cash (re: publishing costs). L

26: Listen, you smell something? A clade of d66 synesthesiacs journeys from one town to another. Among them ... Roll a d5 twice (shift the second roll up or down one if your result is doubles):
1 = Hearing; 2 = Sight; 3 = Smell; 4 = Sound; or 5 = Touch.
... is perceived as ...
1 = Hearing; 2 = Sight; 3 = Smell; 4 = Sound; or 5 = Touch.

51: Time awry. Roll a d7: 1 = a day here is a second elsewhere; 2 = a day here is a minute elsewhere; 3 = a day here is an hour elsewhere; 4 = a day is a day; 5 = a day here is a week elsewhere; 6 = a day here is a month elsewhere; 7 = a day here is a year elsewehere.

Could it be that it's misconstrued and actually had to do with the 6 ability scores creating backstory for the character? Unfortunately I don't have any citations for Gary saying that either, but it makes more sense to me. I don't know if that's the case but I like your idea. It's a very intriguing possibility. You just opened my mind. Thanks man. Legion
