OOC: I don't have a problem with players applying player knowledge/guesses based on my descriptions. I do like players to make in character/game observations, but then if you can apply game knowledge to interpret those observations, cool by me... Now I MAY choose to start using the player's assigned name for something even if it's wrong (not that OD&D really has any of the look-alike monsters - but then the Monster Manual isn't necessarily off limits...).
The main problem is we only have two people posting. I suggest that the two petrified players make new characters and meet us on the road back, and Amadeus and I will gingerly skirt the deadly things and continue northward to the city state
Currently running OD&D Verbosh Campaign (I can usually squeeze in an extra player)

"Noble dwarf!" Quasmus stage-whispers from behind Orofer's shoulder, "Join us on our triumphant return to the City State with ... er, many exciting tales of heroic swordplay and daring-do! But please keep your voice down, as there are cockatrixen about and recent events dissuade us from their company."
