First turn of Sergi Dmitrovis:
The Rusty Nail Tavern, in the Dawn Quarter of Verbobonc, was a hidden gem. Though appearing to be a small, rundown tavern up top, the actual tavern was located underground via stairs from the fake common room above. The real common room was near cavernous (at least for a Verbobonc tavern, where most tended to be on the smaller side), with arched, frescoed ceilings. The frescoes and wall murals depicted pastoral outdoor scenes that, periodically, an illusionary creature like a unicorn would prance through from one image to the next. Sometimes images would even form in the clouds of pipeweed smoke that hovered near the ceiling – though Sergi had every reason to suspect these tricks were the result of spells cast by the staff.
The staff were all gnomes at the Rusty Nail and – more importantly – all gnomes who had no issue with the Rhenee. It was not easy being Rhenee; everyone assumed Rhenee were all thieves. This made actually being a Rhenee thief particularly challenging. But Sergi had some comforts. His mother and sisters came to see him whenever they were in the same town on the river together. And Sergi now had Melania, his girlfriend of two weeks now (played by Florence Lawrence -- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florence_Lawrence – at the age of 21), who he was supposed to meet here.
Sergi spotted Melania first and surprised her. “Oh, you rotten sneak!” she squealed after he poked her in the back from behind. But all was quickly forgiven as they embraced for a kiss. “I’ve news for you, dear,” she whispered in his ear. “I know someone who wants to meet you. He is going to be here any minute now with some merchandise he wants to show us. Can we get a private room?”

Sergi smiles after receiving the kiss and of course the mention of someone showing us merchandise, after all business is business. Sergi goes over to the gnomish barkeep and says in common " Barkeep by chance is one of the private backrooms available? Also I need three ales (or beer, whichever is the local brew in this bar)." Waiting for the three drinks and for the stranger to show up.

First turn of Caltaran Nesmith:
When an officer of either the First Army of the Church or the Viscount’s Standing Army fell in the line of duty, it was the task of a paladin of the Temple of the Heavenly Virtues to see his body returned home. If the officer was injured in the line of duty, but restored to health and ready to return to service, it fell to a cleric of that temple to escort him back to his barracks.
Sergeant Jacobo (played by Wayne Robson at age 23 - www.imdb.com/name/nm0733500/?ref_=tt_cl_t8) had been grievously injured by a horse while trying to save people from a wagon accident a week ago. Thanks to the clergy of the church, he was whole and able to return to duty. He walked beside Caltaran now, slowly making their way to the barracks.
"No hurry, though, right?" Jacobo asked, as if he and Caltaran had just been talking about the subject. "We could...stop off at a tavern on our way to the barracks?"

Second turn of Sergi Dmitrovis:
It was certainly possible to get a back room. At the rusty nail they were called game rooms, each devoted to a different board game waiting inside. Sergi just had to find the tavernkeeper, Bill Pecksniff, and ask.
“Yes, yes, the checkers room is open,” Pecksniff said, his enormous nose waving around in front of him as he walked, like the prow of a ship on a choppy sea.
Melania waited at the door to the checkers room, watching for her contact.
The ales (though they also have beer) came first, delivered by a serving wench Sergi found attractive.

1st post caltaran response:
Walking beside Jacebo, Caltaran knew that duty required him to escort the sergeant back to the barracks, however a light lunch and a drink would not hurt as his charge will be there as well. Adjusting his vestments over his armor ( blue and silver) he says, "yes Jacebo a meal and a beverage would be nice. How about the Familiar Roost Tavern. We should not tarry for long sir as my orders are to make sure you are safely accompanied back to the barracks." Jacebo replies, "yes the Roost is a good choice. Lets go there."

2nd post response for Sergi Dmitrovis:
Sergi heads over to the checkers room and takes the drinks from the serving wench. He gives her a flirtatious smile, says "thank you", and pays for the drinks. He makes sure the curtain is able to be closed off and then proceeds to tidy the room up a bit. He combs his hair and smooths out his mustache. He then keeps an eye on Melania to see if he can get a glimpse of this new contact/client. He also surveys the room to make sure no one is paying to much attention to Sergi or Melania (OOC Scott using hear noise thief skill, please make roll).

2nd post for Caltaran Nesmith:
The Familiar Roost was a two-story, ramshackle tavern, all wood and intricate woodwork, and remarkably built around a huge elm tree that grew out of the walls through appropriately cut holes. Inside, the roots of the elm ran across the packed earth of the common room floor. The theme of nature here even carried over to all the staff wearing green.
There was an elf and a gnome in the tavern, along with a handful of human folk sitting in conversation.
Jacobo paid them no mind, but sat down on a long bench at an empty table and ordered the house wine and some bread and cheese for them both.
Caltaran found the wine was watered down and as tasteless as the cheese, though the bread was okay. Jacobo talked idly about the weather and seemed to be avoiding leaving and going back to work.

caltaran 2nd post response:
Enjoying the conversation and drinking the wine, Caltaran speaks, " much as I enjoy the break, duty still calls. Jacebo lets get going and head to the barracks. As this has been a pleasure meeting you if you need future assistance again please let me know. Also if you guys ever get short on watch members for a shift, please let our church know. After all doing church duties is nice, but assisting the town is also one of our church's duties." With that said Caltaran gets up and heads for the door. Jacebo sighs and proceeds to follow Caltaran, mumbling "regulations and duties" under his breath. The two then head to the barracks.

Third turn of Sergi Dmitrovis:
((rolled a 1 for Hear Noise))
Sergi's keen ears easily detected a stranger's voice outside the game room say "Make sure we are not disturbed" followed by Pecksniff saying "Of course."
Excitedly, Melania ushered this stranger in and closed the door behind. By the light of the room’s hanging lamp, Sergi could see an intense-looking man step into the room (played by Timothy Carey -- www.imdb.com/name/nm0137046/?ref_=tt_cl_t2 – at age 48).
“You are Sergi Dmitrovis?” the man asked. “I am Florence. Melania speaks highly of you. It is good that we meet. She also has told me -- in confidence, of course – that you are a thief. Please, make no effort to play act with wounded dignity or some other such evasion, for it is a thief – but one who can also be trusted as a business partner – that I am looking for. I wish to move contraband into this city and, as you may be aware, Verbobonc has no thieves guild I can contact and work with. That’s why I need independent thieves I can trust. Are you interested?”
Post by dtspurrier on Feb 27, 2014 18:08:02 GMT -6
Third turn Sergi response:
Sergi listens to the stranger and speaks, " well stranger I am interested but would need to know the following. First how big is this contraband do you need moved. Is it a couple of boxes, a few barrels? 2nd where do you want me to deliver this cargo and how is it going to be brought in? Do i need to pick it up?" Obviously what is my cut of the deal or what are you going to pay me for these services? Florence one thing, I do not smuggle in slaves as slave trading to me is a little immoral. " As Sergi is speaking to Florence he listens to see if someone is outside listening to the door. (scott please make a Hear noise check)
(OOC since my character is a Rhennee how much would they normally charge for smuggling as my character should know the normal charge)

Fourth turn of Sergi Dmitrovis:
The situation was an entirely new one for Sergi. He was, after all, only an apprentice thief and had never been asked to be the middle man in a smuggling operation before. He knew what questions to ask, but not how much would be the standard rate for his services.
"Not so fast," the man called Florence said. "You called me a stranger and you were right. We won't actually be doing business until I've come to know you better. But I can tell you two things up front -- the merchandise won't be slaves, and you'll only be asked to move however much you can handle. Before we work out the details, you might want to take stock of how many contacts in the city you have that you can trust and make to work for you.
"Now, the first thing I want to learn about you is what you like in an ale..."
Florence tried the ale sat before him. "Well, that's rather bland, isn't it? Is this just the house ale? Would you like me to see if the proprietor has something more special?"
Meanwhile, Sergi was listening carefully for noises right outside the door to the gameroom, but heard nothing.
Post by dtspurrier on Feb 28, 2014 10:34:22 GMT -6
Fourth turn response for Sergi:
Studying the man, Sergi knew that being an apprentice to the arts and deal making took time and patience. His elders were right about patience, customer service, knowing your allies and adversaries. Looking at the stranger he says, "Florence I do prefer a smooth, crisp and not heavy ale. I am not fond of the Dwarven heavy stock but not the lighter sweeter drinks either, just a good balanced drink." Sergi gets up and opens the door and calls in the barmaid and asks her to fetch Pecksnff. After a minute Pecksniff comes over and asks, "you need something that my wench could not answer?" Sergi responds, " yes my associate and I are interested in besides this ale, which other brands do you have?"

Third turn for Caltaran:
Jacobo may have sighed and proceeded to follow Caltaran, mumbling "regulations and duties" under his breath, but once they were out of the tavern, Jacobo turned down the wrong street, heading away from the barracks instead of towards it.
Post by dtspurrier on Feb 28, 2014 11:52:58 GMT -6
Caltaran 2nd post response:
Caltaran noticed this and moves up besides Jacebo and says, "sir my orders are to escort you back to the barracks. You are fit for duty and I would hate to have your watch commander get upset at me or you for not reporting back for duty. So unless this is an emergency we should head to the barracks."

Fourth turn for Caltaran:
Sergeant Jacobo suddenly turned hostile. "Who are you to order me around? You're just an acolyte, aren't you? Now, get out of my way and leave me be!" and he shoved Caltaran violently, pushing him back a few steps.
Post by dtspurrier on Feb 28, 2014 13:52:00 GMT -6
Caltaran fourth post response
Trying not to lose his temper, but remembering his acolyte training Caltaran calms himself and speaks to Jacobo. "Sir I am not trying to order you around in fact all I am doing is following orders from my church. My job is to make sure you get to the barracks safe and sound. So sometime before the day is ended I need to get you back to the barracks. Otherwise I still need to accompany you to where you are headed to make sure you are safe. As a suggestion if you want to get rid of me, I can literally walk you back to the barracks door, check you in, and my orders are complete. Then you can do what you wish."

Fifth turn for Sergi:
"Of course, of course," Pecksniff said, his nose bobbing up and down as he nodded. "Our house ale is too common. Can I interest you in a Gnarley Stout?"
"Have you any aged brandy from Urnst?" Florence asked.
"I'll check at once," Pecksniff said and then slipped out of the room.
"We'll see if that is good and balanced enough for your palette soon," Florence said to Sergi. "Now, back to business. I know the Rhenee have a...reputation. Have you had any recent troubles with the law I should know about?"
"Not a bit," Melania said, speaking up for Sergi. She smiled at Florence and didn't take her eyes off him.

Seegi 5th post response:
"Well you little minx Melania and I thought I flirted a lot," Sergi thinks to himeself. He speaks to Florence, "no I have not any problems with the law as I have been behaving nicely. However if business causes me to misbehave, then I will misbehave (OOC: "Firefly" TV series reference)and of course get the job done without any major fuss. My family runs a legitimate barge business, but I need to get out more and explore more and make some profit." Waiting for the barkeep Sergi continues, "what about you Florence, any recent problems with the law I need to know about. Any wanted posters or upset nobles at you. After I too like to know the person I am going to do business with."

Fifth turn for Caltaran, Vicent:
Jacobo cast his eyes down. "You shame me with the sincerity of your duty, especially since I would be so lax in mine if I was but free to work my heart's will. Very well," he said resolutely and made eye contact with Caltaran again. "I am forced by your persistence to reveal all. A week I spent in the house of healing and my bones were mended by miraculous spells. Yet...my heart was broken to leave, for I had been in the care of a maiden so good and pure of heart that I would be derelict in my duties and feign some excuse to go back to her care if I could but arrange it. So now you know how we have come to this impasse and why I feel I will resist you even now if you press me again to return to my barracks, where only harsh commands await me and not the sweet voice of Rosalina."
Caltaran recognized the name, for there was a Rosalina that belonged to his church who was just a layperson, but a good herbalist and volunteered much of her time to the house of healing.
Meanwhile, Vicent had returned inside the city walls and wound his way through the foggy streets of the Dawn Quarter on his way back to the Inner Bailey (and to report to Father Bureau), when he witnessed a man-at-arms shoving an acolyte of Vicent's acquaintance, Caltaran. No further violence followed, though, and they began a spirited conversation afterwards.
Noticing Vicent speaking, "vicent I am alright no physical damage. This man is under my charge as I am escorting him back to the barracks. He was under my church's care while he is healing. His actions while rash and not appropriate, can at least be forgiven since it has good intentions."
Caltaran then replies to Jacobo "Rosalina, I heard is a good lady. I have not met her but her time volunteering at our church shows definite good character. Since you obviously have true feelings and If you are wanting to see her again we can, after all my church and the watch did not give a specific deadline as to when I need to get you back to the barracks, but to at least escort you back.
(OOC depending on the what time of day it is Scott, I will say just after lunch unless you correct me).
Caltaran continues, "We will go see her and if she has free time you can spend time with her. I will respect and give you both your privacy. However, I need to get you back to the barracks by no later then after dinner bells, unless you have the authority(permit) to travel after hours. One of the ethos I learned as an acolyte is "Duty to a Lady. This duty pertains to the concept of courtly love, devotion to one's beloved, and respect toward all women in general. ( see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heironeous)
Therefore to deny seeing her could be treated as a lack of respect and curtisy, provided that she feels the same way. Therefore lets go find her and as far as needing an excuse for seeing her if she is at the church, let me do the talking first. So lets go seek her out."

Turn six for Sergi:
Pecksniff kept the Ursnt Brandy flowing until Sergi, Melania, and apparently also Florence were all good and tipsy. Melania was making that high-pitched laugh she always made when she was half-drunk.
Florence was no looser with information once he was tipsy. Florence stuck largely to small talk while drinking and the most telling thing Sergi got out of him was when Florence said, "I am not a wanted man -- in Verbobonc. And you need not concern yourself with the law catching up with me."
"I'm hungry," Melania fussed later, while sitting on Sergi's lap.
"Yes, I believe it is time for dinner," Florence said, standing up. "I would stay and join you if I could, but I have a previous engagement elsewhere. I will, however, give you this small sample of the wares we would be doing business in," and he tossed a small pouch down on the table in front of Sergi and Melania. "Please enjoy. I will be in touch," Florence said with a bow before leaving.
6th post for Caltaran: (OOC Jeremy I had to adjust the post as you posted just before I sent my original, lol)
Caltaran speaks, "Vicent , SGt Jacobo, had no right to attack me, and I believe I have an apology coming. The attack did not cause physical damage. I might have provoked the attack with my tone towards him , granted this should not have escalated to violence, however my intentions were just following orders. My duties are to escort him back to the barracks as he has just came back recovering from injuries at our church. He wanted to see someone before going back to the barracks, but was unwilling to tell me as it was a private matter. I pushed hum for the information and he lost his temper. His story is that he is in love with one of the lady volunteers at our church, probably the nurse/alchemist who attended to his injuries. "
Sergi thanks Florence and when Florence leaves he gives Melania a big kiss and then gracefully puts her into a chair. Sergi then picks up the pouch and then orders early supper from Pecksniff. He then goes back into the private checker room and opens the pouch, looking and examining the contents.
"I assume you shall report your misdeeds to your superior, I hope I shall not have to," Vicent answered Caltaran.
He then turned to the warrior, "Remember the resist the poor judgment excited by base lust, Jacobo. Remember St. Cuthbert's teaching, 'Hard work and a cool head will take you further than misspent time abed.' Now," he brought Caltaran back into his gaze, "do you two men require a chaperon back to the barracks? Or can I be about more important business than this?"
Before Jacebo can lose his temper, Caltaran speaks to Vicent, "no thank you we do not need a chaparon. As far as reporting back to my superiors I will take that suggestion under advisement. Thank you for the assistance Vicent but the matter is under control. It was nice to see you Vicent and good day. Turning to Jacobo," lets be off to our destination."
