Boon companions Joaquim and Marcel were thieves born and raised, though not of the hand-in-your-pocket, skulking-about-in-shadows type. Con-men and false-facers, the both of them. What they lacked in stealth and skill with a lock, they made up for by displaying an alarming affinity for lying, cheating, pretending, and more lying.
The friends were orphans in the Free City of Greyhawk from a young age. They honed their skills by learning to survive on their own in the harsh reality of the Lower City. Marcel used the time-honored talent of being larger than everyone else to carve them out a space of their own, while Joaquim learned to decipher a book of magic spells that the pair had taken off a dead man in a back alley when they were 8 years old. But strength and a few magical tricks can only take you so far.
It was predominantly their knack for deceit and subterfuge that allowed them to acquire, hide and hold on to what seemed a small fortune. Hundreds of gold coins were in their trove when they decided they'd had enough of the Free City. They set out on a boat bound for far-off Verbobonc with coins in their pockets and new clothes on their backs, eager to leave their lives of dishonesty and treachery behind them. They would face this new world as bonafide men and bring it to its knees.
And if that didn't work? well, they could always fall back on their other talents...
