Ways, any plans to come out with a Referee's Screen?
If not, does anyone have advice on home made screens?

Ways, any plans to come out with a Referee's Screen? I haven't really given it much thought yet but it is something I'd like to get to after the hardback is all done. Right here seems to be a good place to start collecting ideas How big is "just right" for a ref's screen? And what content should a ref's screen ideally have on it? Reaction tables? Random encounter tables? Random wilderness terrain? Monsters stats? Ship stats? Treasure tables? What other stuff is most useful?

As far as size, I use a Star Wars RPG screen at the moment which is basically 8.5" x 11" and is 3 panels. I like the size personally. As far as what I personally would want on it, let me think about that for a bit...

• Saving throws and attack matrix for Monsters. • Treasure Tables. • Random Encounter Tables. • Reaction Tables. • Turn Undead Tables • The Spell charts like in the Reference Sheets • Reaction & Loyalty Tables I also saw some pictures of 4 panel screens and those are cool as well. Oh, and cool art too!

What do you think about a three- or four-panel, digest-sized screen?
It would pack up neatly with all your other digest-sized goodies, but obviously isn't quite so tall as a letter-sized screen.

Personally, I think digest would be awesome. Especially if it's 4 panel. But either would rock..

I agree - a digest sized screen would be really cool. You'll need to be more cognizant of font sizes and such though. Trying to get too much on a smaller screen, it will be easy to let the font sizes get too small to comfortably read. For us old guys anyway...

Don't worry Koren n'Rhys I'm of a similar vintage myself. Font sizes will be sensible; and most likely identical to the book.

I generally don't use screens, but would like a digest sized one a lot, since I could just use it as a handy reference sheet.
Maybe 3 or 4 panels of info for the referee, like the stuff idrahil mentioned above, and maybe the right and left outwards panels with some information for the players. Equipment lists, saves, experience tables, etc. Maybe even the same material on both the right and left sides, so everyone at the table can equally glance at it if they need to.

Thanks idrahil, I didn't know there was any interest in DD over on dragonsfoot... I should have a look around there. It's cool that folks are making their own DD stuff, but I do feel obliged to mention that the Mark Allen art is Mark Allen's copyright. edit: Except the character sheet; that's my copyright, and I grant ye permission to reuse.

Oh! I hadn't thought of that! Is it ok to use it in that way if its free? When I had done that box for my son, I actually contacted Larry Elmore and got permission to put his pic on the box but was told it wasn't necessary. (I saved those emails because he was very gracious about discussing that iconic art piece).
I have the utmost respect for Mark Allen and love his art. This was just something to show how it could be done.

That looks awesome - he really put a lot of work into and it shows. It would be great if Mark, John and Simon can hash out a way to share this legally and make it an "official" screen. It's great for his private use and a shame not to be able to share.

Is it ok to use it in that way if its free? Technically, no -- the price has no bearing on copyright. When I had done that box for my son, I actually contacted Larry Elmore and got permission to put his pic on the box but was told it wasn't necessary. (I saved those emails because he was very gracious about discussing that iconic art piece). This would be the right thing to do in the case of the Mark Allen cover art, too. It would be great if Mark, John and Simon can hash out a way to share this legally and make it an "official" screen. I'll contact Mark and see what can be done.

That would be great if you could make it happen. Thanks for taking the time to look into it. Since the BHP booklets were the source of all the tables, art, and info, I'm not sure how much of that will be different in your revised Reliquary edition. If Mark does OK this, perhaps a second version that accurately reflects the changes can be made. Should be pretty easy to update the powerpoint source file and then there would be an official screen available no matter what version of DD someone runs.
