I almost ordered this, until I found that standard USPS mail would cost $13.99. Did I miss something, or do something wrong on that site? That seems incredibly ridiculous to me. Great find, otherwise, Falc!!

Hmm. That sucks. Though I have to admit, it is still tempting to buy 7 copies for $99 and get the free shipping. My game group would be set for years. Think of all the RPG products that cost more than $99.
If only the paper weren’t glossy and it had the full Trampier cover, it would be a no-brainer.

It's a shame they went with glossy paper. I don't mind the new covers at all, but matte paper is much nicer. Still, for < $20 for the hardbacks, it still seems like quite a deal. The books themselves are nicely put together as well. (Proper binding and all that. They'll probably last a good white.)

Why not just buy copies of the original edition since they are higher quality regardless of aging?

Well I gave away my own original copies of the three core books to players when I started playing again, because I am not a sentimentalist, and maybe I was lucky but I landed a pristine Wizard PHB, which I hand out during games, and a very good copy of the Idol/Adventurers edition which I don't, it has nice thick paper almost as good as the extraordinary quality original monster manual which is a treasure. Unfortunately the DMG never received such high quality treatment.
Frankly if I had several more players I would get them to order old editions online themselves and take the chance but my recent lot printed out pdfs and are perfectly happy with them. I think you need to be a DM to appreciate the highest quality for your own satisfaction.
Personally as I get older I demand higher quality from all kinds of books and have been trading in grotty paperbacks for quality hardbacks of all kinds of my favourite books for a few years now, so for D&D aesthetics I have a double set of the core books as best I could find with the two kinds of cover. In my experience players don't give a sh!t, they just want the information at their fingertips.

Also, keep your eye on your friendly local used book stores. I've gotten all three of the core books at Half Price Books for under 10 bucks each, in good to great shape. And I know there are more out there...

Yeah, I do check in every used book store I come across. I do love snagging a “real” Deities & Demigods at a non-inflated price.
