Quasmus searches around the walls of the cavern and finds a nook that was initially not obvious. In that nook is an egg the size of his head. There appears to be a small steam vent warming the nook (and perhaps explaining the suitability of this cave for occupancy by cold blooded creatures as a lair).

"This is no time for omelettes! Stow that egg carefully in a sack, swaddled in your bedroll - it shall command a handsome price, if we can find the right buyer back in town. I propose we return there as soon as possible and collect our rewards!"

[Honestly a bit muddled at this point, I thought it was the Duchess who offered the reward. In any event, I suggest we collect the reward first, using the lizard head as proof of our eminent victory. Then, perhaps, head back to town to spend the reward as befits a company of mercenaries, puffs and vagabonds; and finally try sell the egg to any alchemist/zoologist/sage/foodie/tavernkeep we can find.]
"I would certainly be in favor of moving on to the City-State once we've collected our reward from the Duchess," opines Hakon. "Atwain was most forgettable, and I'm anxious to get started on that right away."
Bowing, Hakon shakes his head. "Must we start such a precedent? Today I risk my life, tomorrow you do, the next day someone else. It all evens out. Or do we give everything to the widow of he who sadly perishes? After all, he gave all that there was to give! No, my friend, equal shares for equal effort, this is the Golden Rule."
You make your way to the keep. Your new friends introduce you to the gate guards and get you admittance to the keep. You are invited to wait in the main hall. The duchess is in residence, and soon comes down. She is disappointed that Cale is no longer among you, but recognizes Amadeus and Quasmus and sends for the steward to remit the reward to you, 100 gp for each member of your party. She is also happy to entrust 100 gp for each slain member to be delivered to their family.
Sporglebiff wakes up mid-caravan from his very, very lengthy sleep. He rubs his eyes...He vaguely remembers joining this adventuring party in an inn, looking for fame and fortune and adventure in the Wilderlands, but the events of the past two weeks or so are a blur.
"Gentlemen!" he says, joining the others in the main room. "What has happened these last weeks? Where are we?"
I will TRY to keep track of gold expenditures... I will likely miss some, so if players want to keep track also and remind me, I will update in the reference charts thread. Likely I will only miss incidental expenditures, so it may not be too much of an issue.
