Do the PC's know each other before the adventure begins?

Yeah, let's assume you guys have been drinking at the same bar for a while, got to talking, and decided to pool your efforts to get rich faster.
I was hoping you all would give me more to work with but the Discussion of Player Goals didn't go so well.

As each of you post in the IC thread, I'll add another hook. Once all six of you are in there, you'll have six hooks to choose from, and the game will be afoot!

Consider this commentary more than anything else; I'm not telling anyone what to do.
I just want to throw this out there to you guys before we begin in earnest. If anyone wants to ret-con their characters, now is the time.
You don't have any characters who are Psychics. And you don't have any characters who have Stealth, Culture/Criminal or Security. Your group is the rough equivalent of a D&D party with no Mages and no Thieves.
Which is not to say you won't succeed or have fun. But in certain situations, you will have to act like a blunt instrument because you are missing certain subtle skills.
Again, just making an observation. I want everyone to play the character they want to play. I strongly suggested you get some characters with Tech/Medical because otherwise, you'd be adding a serious degree of difficulty. This is a smaller handicap.

I have stealth, actually. And if that's okay with you, I could swap out my Culture/Nirvana with Culture/Criminal, since it fits my character concept just as well (or even better).

It may be a moot point since it's Wednesday and only two of six PCs have posted. What's everyone waiting for?

If you want to stick with what you've got, that's fine, too. I just wanted to make everyone aware of the situation. Here's the description of the Security skill: The character is familiar with primitive and modern security systems, both in setting them up and defeating them. The character can pick a lock, defeat a retinal scanner, circumvent a pressure sensor, and otherwise attempt to overcome security measures. If that sounds like a skill set one of you thinks the team needs, make a change. If not, we can get on with it.

It's now Friday and we haven't gotten far.
Rather than wait for Static and Cameron, let's get going with the four players who have already posted. The others can catch up when they're able.

Gentlemen,
I'm enjoying the banter so far but I'd like to get moving, especially now that Cameron's character is ready to go. Can we pick a lead to follow so I can move the story along?
Cam, I will review your PC today and give you any edits required.

Cameron, if your character has any goals, feel free to share them in the Discussion of Player Goals thread.

A practical point: I think we should discuss our plans here, OOC. If were sitting around a real table, we would be doing it OOC, too.
So, I suggest this: go to that meeting with the prospective employer,* hear him out. If his job isn't A, decidedly lucrative and B, requiring immediate action, we spend a few days doing other things first. In that case, I would suggest investigating Rahim's first two bounties (they sound like quick jobs with some luck), use the reward(s) to get better gear, then go to the mine.
* Actually, I think there are two, only one player decided not to share the info, is that right?

Your choices are: A. Pursue one of the bounties (6,000 credits and up) B. Meet Aoki-san and see about his ship (a ship?) C. Security team for a hacker (5,000 credits for five PCs) D. Search the abandoned mine ( ) Can we come to an agreement on the next step by Friday, if not sooner?

I agree with this completely. (And I'm the player who didn't (yet) share my offer. It struck me as creepy and stalkerish, so I wanted to hear what other options we had available. Or that could just be how I read it at the time.)

Yeah, I vote to go see Aoki-san.
Guys, I'm dealing with a family emergency that came up over the weekend and is still not completely resolved. My Mom got sick Thursday night/Friday morning and I had to call 911 Saturday morning when she was unable to move her left leg or control her left arm. Turns out she had a TIA (small stoke). I've been with her at the hospital where any access to the internet is spotty and my attention to the games is even more spotty. IAC, she was released late yesterday and I'm trying to look after her at home now. If nothing else happens, I'll be here, but probably not fully involved until she's closer to normal...or as close as she can be at 92.

Really sorry to hear it, eris. But you've got it right; family comes first. We'll be here when you have more time.

Sorry to hear it as well, Eris. Hope things work out well for you and yours. Thanks for the concern guys. Mom was back in the hospital over the weekend, home today. I'm here but not able to do much.

Gentlemen:
Can you let me know the rate at which you expect to be posting in this game going forward?
Obviously, eris has had some family issues much more important than this game but I'm at a loss as to why the rest of you aren't posting more often. Do you need more direction from me?
I wasn't expecting this game to be anywhere near a post a day, but the current pace is too slow.

I wasn't expecting this game to be anywhere near a post a day, but the current pace is too slow. I'm having a bit of trouble following threads here on the board's new format. Perhaps if we had set turn days & times, that way I could go looking for it? I imagine after a while of getting used the new interface it won't be as much of a problem.

Cameron:
There are a couple different ways to keep an eye on this game.
You can get an email notification when threads are updated. Profile -> Edit Profile -> Notifications, column of email notification checkboxes.
Also, when you log into odd74, if any threads in which you've posted have been updated, there's a NEW icon next to the Participated link at the top right corner of the site. Click on the link and you get a list to choose from.
I am not keen on having specific deadlines for people to post because, inevitably, people miss deadlines, the game goes on without them, and they start to lose their personal connection to the game. If it happens often enough, they drop out.

I wasn't expecting this game to be anywhere near a post a day, but the current pace is too slow. My problem is that I'm not a real leader-type. Neither is my character, for that matter. I do check in on a daily basis (except sometimes on weekends). But if I don't see that things have progressed much beyond my last post, I don't have much to add. So I don't post. Do we have a caller? I've seen that work in other games on this forum. That might help to spur things along. (Although I don't know if our merry little band has an actual leader. If we did, he would be the obvious choice for caller.)

I'll update the IC thread tonight.
If anyone wants to be Caller, I'm all for it.
If not, I'll try to be a little more proactive in laying out options for the party. I don't like to do that, because I feel like it limits the players' imaginations and responses to the story, but I think it will be ok if I do so only when it looks like player comments have stalled out.

premmy, can you clarify whether your character is on the street behind the warehouse, or in the alleyway next to the warehouse?

I would like to approach the watchman from whichever direction gives me more cover and thus a better chance of not being noticed (in Rahim's judgement). Does that answer your question?

I'll give gronk and eris one more day to post and then I'm moving the game along.
FYI to those characters who stayed by the transit station: you're two or three blocks away so if anything happens, it's going to take you a long time to show up and help. If we go to a combat situation, for example, you essentially won't be able to participate.
This is the sort of advice I don't want to make a habit of giving, because I like the players to deal with the consequences of their own actions, but since it's a new game with a new rules system, I'll point this sort of thing out here and there.
