That is some fascinating reading--thanks for taking the time to write it all up!
Though I started playing in 1982, in the height of the Adventure Module paradigm, something like the Wild Coast release you mention could quite possibly have sent me in another direction entirely...

I remember long about 1981 or so hearing a youngster say "My brother said that they used to make their own modules."

Rob -- this is pure gold! :-O
For some reason I had it in my head that Dave's campaign made use of the Outdoor Survival map, while yours/Gary's did not. This helps me get my own facts straight!

Wow! That's... wow! Wouldn't it have been nice if the old alumni(rob, tim, etc.)could have inherited TSR instead of WotC?
