I've also ordered the OD&D reprints. I ordered Delving Deeper a little bit over a year ago, now. I think if I had known they were on the horizon and that this would ship so late i'd have skipped my order in the first place. This. I understand John faced really hard times over the past year but I feel a little bit frustrated. But I'm sure it will eventually end well-just really late... If it weren't for the other stuff in my order (Appendix N, X-Plorers, Pete Mullen box) I would ask for the possibility of a refund. But I would really like to have these other games plus I really like to support such OSR publishers. So no hard feelings to John but I really wish that the remaining shipments don't take this long again.

I think if I had known they were on the horizon and that this would ship so late i'd have skipped my order in the first place. Perhaps, but remember that the two products do different things. (1) The OD&D reprints will have the old rules exactly as presented in 1974. That can be good or bad, depending upon your perspective. I love the way the OD&D books are written, but many dislike the fact that they aren't organized well. Some stuff is in the main books, other stuff in the supplements. You have to jump around a little to get all of the rules you may want. (2) Delving Deeper has the advantage of nearly four decades of watching what other do with OD&D. This means it will be a more cleaned up, better organized rulebook. All of the similar information will be put together instead of in multiple volumes. I guess it may come down to what you want the rules for.

To be clear, I really like Delving Deeper. I think it's really well done, and I recommend it to people all the time. The hardcover version being put together sounds really great, and I plan to pick that up as well. I'm not just not sure i'd have bought this boxed set knowing what I know now. (Even putting it being so late aside.) I ended up printing up my own booklets at home using the no-art PDFs, which I quite like. In hindsight that probably would have been good enough for me.
And it's true I want the OD&D books to read more than use in play. In the OD&D game I play in now I find myself using a players reference PDF because its more neatly organized than Men and Magic. Delving Deeper is also handy in that regard.

My point was just that the two rules sets actually fill slightly different purposes, and one may be more useful if you have a specific need while the other might be useful for a different need.

My only regret in all of this is that DD seems like the best version of OSR to date and this delay has taken the shine off of it meaning that wider support might never materialize.

My only regret in all of this is that DD seems like the best version of OSR to date and this delay has taken the shine off of it meaning that wider support might never materialize. Yeah, I think Delving Deeper was potentially the most important OSR release, mainly because OD&D is the only ruleset really out of the reach of most casual gamers. B/X, AD&D, etc can easily be bought on eBay. OD&D is obviously rare, expensive, and valuable, so even people who own the original booklets might not want to spill beer and Cheetos all over them. S&W covered OD&D but not to the same extent that DD does. I prefer to think that all this hasn't pulled the rug out. I think once the hardback is out things might start rolling.

Wow. What a thread. While I sympathize with Johns personal problems, on abusiness level it seems to me that after several years of issues trying to get product out, maybe he should concentrate on his life and family, as he seems to be creating a lot of problems for himself as a publisher. I know with the WB issues, I decided never to purchase on a wing and a prayer from him again. There are too many OSR folks out there underpromising and overdelivering on their products to have to deal with BH's issues time and time again.

In John's defense, the WB situation was sort of complex and not really his fault. John was outstanding at creation and production of many boxed WB sets and hardback WB books before some external factors and misunderstandings at work that derailed that particular project.

This is true Marv, however I had issues with the quality of the product (Split cover on one book) as well as poor packaging (i.e. no packing/padding materials) which resulted in damage to the box during shipping. Very disappointing on every level in my situation. After having waited so long for it, I gave up on BHP as a business. I do still have my BHP softcover print from Lulu...great product and IMO John should have stuck with Lulu as it would eliminate his inability to get product out. But that is JMO.

I must say I'm beginning to feel a little bit antsy. John hasn't responded to my email and previous question here yet and my package hasn't arrived. Another package that was shipped from the US on 28th August arrived yesterday and my BHP order that was supposed to be shipped on August 20th (and take 10 days - that's what I've been told by John) is still nowhere to be found...My first tracking number (btw, they never work for some reason) was on 16th March...That's 4 months of trying to ship a package and I don't think it's a USPS problem.
So, again, John if you see my email or this thread please take a look into this.

Did you contact me when yours arrived damaged?

I am sorry about your loss. In the grand scheme of things, D&D does not matter much.

I created this account just to post on this topic as this seemed to be the only place I could find with active discussion on the status of the Delving Deeper Box Set.
I've sent three emails in as many months asking about the status of my order. No response.
It looks like John may read these boards so I am hoping he will respond here.
Last attempt here...I doubt I will ever see this product or my $40

I feel that I should respond further to this. I am not a troll. I am very frustrated at this point. I ordered this product almost two years ago as a birthday present for my son who was just starting to show interest in this great hobby that we all enjoy. I wanted to get him something unique. Something he wouldn't see on every store shelf. I found BraveHalfling after searching for OSR products and thought it would be a great introduction to the hobby. His website looked professional, and I thought I was dealing with an actual business. I did not at the time realize that I was dealing with a hobby publisher. In hind site, my mistake. I have a better feeling for the OSR movement now and realize that it is very much a hobby movement.
I do feel for Johns problems. I myself was going through a very rough time when I placed this order. $40 to me two years ago was a hell of a lot of money. To Johns credit, I also order some game boxes and an X-Plorer box set and did receive those items in a timely manner. My frustration comes from the constant misinformation. I kept reading on his site that he was shipping orders. I emailed to ask about mine with no response. Then his website went dark... with a notice that he was shipping all orders by the 25th of August and if you didn't receive your order to contact him. I did so...nothing in response.
My last attempt to contact John was in response to his mass email about his kickstater....which I helped fund. No response.
If you want to call me a troll for calling John out on this that is fine with me. If it gets John to respond, that is all I care about.

It's been 8 days since he last posted here. 4 Days since his last Facebook post. I'd say PM him here and see if you can get another update. The communications from BHP for those will long standing order issues seems to be, well, not so good. I hope it works out soon for all of you and for John as well.

We have tried to reply to all emails (going back to the beginning of August to be sure) since we asked folks who hadn't receive the first DD shipment by August 25. We sent out an email to all those people last week to let them know we are working to fulfill their order. In fact, we will be creating all of the remaining DD Boxed Set orders this week and they will most likely ship the week after that one. My new team and I are working to get everything organized and updated (our old index card system was a spectacular failure). However, a couple of folks (who purchased from me and continue to use false names) have emailed us recently are using email addresses that apparently can only send emails and not receive them. So they just keep emailing me, madder and madder and every one of my responses just bounces right back to me.

Hello John,
I noticed your website now has information about emailing you at john@bravehalfling.com. All of the emails I've sent have been either to brave.halfling.publishing@gmail.com, or in the case of my last response to your kickstater update, bhpshipping@gmail.com. Could this be the issue?
I will gladly foward those emails to john@bravehalfling.com. My gmail account works just fine, and I did not use a "false" name to order from you.
Thanks
