I am pleased to announce that the Blackmarsh sandbox fantasy setting will be included in the Delving Deeper boxed set by Brave Halfling Publishing. It will be a 20 to 24 page supplement detailing the region of Blackmarsh and its locale. It will include a 8.5 by 11 map of Blackmarsh, a half page map of the town of Castle Blackmarsh, an essay on managing sandbox fantasy campaigns, a short history, and a fleshed out list of locales, The locales are described in one or two paragraphs with only the level, class, or HD noted for the NPCs and creatures.
The text and maps of Blackmarsh will be released under the Open Game License allowing anybody to freely publish supplemental material for the setting. The setting shares the same loose background with the other Points of Light setting. It is designed to adjoin the Southland setting. Blackmarsh is to the north of Southland. For those with the Points of Light books, it is set in the same "time period" as Southland.
I consider my work on sandbox setting my most original contribution to the hobby. Until the Necromancer team and myself worked on the Wilderlands boxed set it received little attention or interest. Since then I been able to write a number of well received projects, Points of Light, How to Make a Fantasy Sandbox, etc.
since then, I am always looking for opportunities to get more sandbox fantasy material out there. When John Adam announced his boxed set I sent him an email and we quickly came to an agreement to include Blackmarsh in the boxed set. I really excited about this as I think it will help people get up and running with Delving Deeper quickly. Of course since Delving Deeper is built on the original 1974 roleplaying game, Blackmarsh will work with Labyrinth Lord, Swords & Wizardry, OSRIC, and many other retro-clones.
When the three volume softcover series is released, I will release the PDF of Blackmarsh for free. Also I will release a plain word document of Blackmarsh. Along with this I will offer for sale a standalone print copy of Blackmarsh.
Currently the project is the midst of being edited and proofed, see the series of editing post by Tim of Gothridge Manor. I will post more on Blackmarsh itself tomorrow.

As an associate editor for BHP I can't say often enough how pleased we are to have Rob's excellent campaign. This is a fine bit of work and, by association, improves ours as well!

Oooh! Whilst I'm probably not going to get Delving Deeper, I would happily pay for this, so you giving it away for free is just added goodness. I'm going to push the little Karma button.

Will the Blackmarsh sandbox be included on recently pre-ordered box sets? (Recently being a week ago) I didn't read anything about it on John's latest development blog post.

My guess is no based on what John wrote in the comments of the Development blog 7 comments: bravehalfling.com/?p=558#commentsOf course, I could be wrong.

Yes the Blackmarsh will be included in the Boxed set. The separate orint run is for the people who buy the softcovers after the Boxed sets run out. It will be sold through RGPNow/lulu.

That is so cool! I thought the Blackmarsh sandbox was limited to the first 25 (or so) people who pre-ordered the box set. I was bummed because I couldn't get the money to preorder until last week.

Rob is correct, his setting (as long as it stays around the current page count) is going to go in all of the boxed sets - the 125 pre-orders as well as the Boxed Starter Sets we will release this summer.
Rob offered this setting to go in Delving Deeper the day after I announced development of the game. I have never mentioned it because I wanted Rob to get to announce it first.

Looking around on the Brave Halfline forum, I don't see any DD info beyond the development logs. Is there a main page I've missed somewhere?

Working on some covers The cover for the Delving Deeper boxed set. And the cover for the standalone print version. Yes it plays a bit to nostalgia.

Amazing! If only I could get my hands on my copy of Delving Deeper already. I am curious, are you planning to publish adventures set in Blackmarsh? Do you have any plans for the setting.

Most of my attention has been on getting the DD rules onto the page. I know John has a business plan for DD in mind, but since that is his end of the franchise I really haven't been "in the loop". If he doesn't answer your question here I'll ask him about it and let you know.
I do know at least one supplement is in the works, because that one will be my work, too.

Rob is releasing the whole thing under the OGL, so that should mean anyone can write and publish adventures for it. Now there's a challenge for people to take up. - Neil.

Amazing! If only I could get my hands on my copy of Delving Deeper already. I am curious, are you planning to publish adventures set in Blackmarsh? Do you have any plans for the setting. Appreciate the compliment. As for my plans for the setting, Neil is correct in that I am releasing the text and maps under the OGL. Anybody can make a commercial or non-commercial product for it. Blackmarsh uses the same loose background as the other settings I did in the Points of Light series from Goodman Games. So there is expanded material for it out there now. Plus Southland is a free download from here (http://cdn.themis-media.com/media/global/images/articles/article/7928/SouthLand.pdf). It adjoins directly to the south and is set in the same time period. So you already have an expansion for Blackmarsh (or is it the other way around ;D) The next land I will do in the series is Wild North which was published in Fight On! #3 for the Wilderlands of High Fantasy. I am going to reedit it and get rid of the Wilderlands material (the locales on the bottom hex rows). And redraw the bottom hex rows to fit with Blackmarsh. It will also be a test to see how I can sell a large hex map as the map is 17" by 22". The Wilderlands version is at Cafepress. The primary design goal is always to make each land droppable in somebody D&D campaign. Then worry about how it fits in the loose background. Currently for adventures and detailed supplements I am focusing on my Majestic Wilderlands. The next thing up for that is the Scourge of the Demon Wolf. Hope this answers your question.

I printed out the relevant maps yesterday and was trying to figure out how they would go together. Your explanation makes sense.
I will admit I've been umming and ahhing over the cafepress map. I would definitely stump up for a version that tied in to Blackmash.

Rob says he's already got a location for "The Ruins of Ramat" in his setting, so I am sure I will have other material for it as well. But as others have pointed out, Rob's setting and map are OGL and everyone can add stuff for it.
