The Giant Centipede is listed as having an AC of 3/7. Looking at another monster with split AC, the Stegosaurus, it has a better AC from the top than the bottom. Is that the intent with the giant centipede? No explanation seems to be given.

Okay, I thought at first it was a wording ambiguity but I think I was mistaken. At any rate, I'd give a superior AC dorsally and the inferior AC ventrally.

Going purely from memory, I think I recall that it was supposed to have a well armoured head but a softer body. I.e., anyone facing it head on would get the tough, hurty part. But anyone who managed to flank it or attack from behind could get at the softer parts. I will check up on it after work

Looking back at the sources, DD's Giant Centipede appears to be a generic monster modeled loosely on the Carrion Crawler. That monster is noted in Greyhawk (and later in AD&D) to have AC 3/7, and the AD&D MM explains that the head is AC 3 and the body AC 7.
I will update the monster description in the Ref Rules errata and version b.
