It was suggested yesterday by kesher that I take some time to talk about the Mini6 Nehwon game I am running. Here goes.
First some background. At the public library here in Norman Oklahoma, there is an event held the first Tuesday of every month where middle/high-schoolers show up to play tabletop games. I've been going to this event since my freshmen year of high school (I'm a senior now), but it wasn't until last year that I started GMing.
At this month's meet up, I prepared a Mini6 game set in Fritz Leiber's Nehwon. I adapted the 'Chagmat' module from Dragon #63, to make it appropriate for Nehwon, setting the adventure in the town of Kythe in the Northwestern Land of Eight Cities; a few days South of Gnamph-Nar.
The characters are as follows...
A Priest of 'Issek of the Jug': played by a very experienced gamer.
An ex Lankhmart Guildthief: whose player had never played an RPG before.
A Mingol ex Pirate: whose player had also never played an RPG before.
A Demonologist from Sarheenmar: whose player has only ever played D&D 3.5.
A Wilderness Guide from the Land of Eight Cities: whose player isn't very experienced
with non D&D RPGs.
A Traveling Sage (like the one from Groo): played by an experienced gamer.
A Cold Waste Barbarian Shieldmaiden: whose player has minimal RPG experience.
It didn't seem to be a problem incorporating the new players, and getting them up to speed with the experienced ones. Everyone seemed to have a good time.
The best moment of the game was when the two first time gamers went 'Back to Back Badass' on a huge nest of fire beetles. They came out victorious, and, convinced the rest of the party to extinguish their torches so that they could be saved for later, distributing the beetles glowing eggsacks to everyone as a light source. Good thing they went for these non-flame lights, as the next cavern the party entered contained a flammable gas build up.
All in all, a very fun evening. Depending on what the players say, I might extend this adventure into a full length campaign; though I might switch from Mini6 to The Fantasy Trip as our rule system.
