So. . .I'm on a comics kick again after a long while.
Just was looking at my copy of the Killraven graphic novel, and it got me thinking about the fact that while I've loved and read many superhero comics--I've always gravitated toward the genre works that fell more into the science fantasy, horror, and sword & sorcery categories for some reason.
Moebius, Savage Sword of Conan, Killraven, Dreadstar, Simonson's run on Thor, Kirby's Fourth World--that's the stuff!

Hi guys, just letting you know I self publish a comic called Legends of Log. It's a giant log that carries as ax and yells, "TIMBERRRRRR"! Weird hun? It's all based on my playing and reading of sword & sorcery comics and DnD. Take a look and let me know what you think. www.legendsoflog.comThanks

Interesting, pbjb! I particularly liked this -- "Printed on classic pulp comic paper" -- as a clever selling point. How much did that help in keeping the cover price down?
Sincerely, Scott "-enkainen" Casper

I don't really read comics in general, but I did enjoy the Dark Horse Conan stories in the past couple of years. I'm just exasperated by the complexity of all these "runs" and "lines" and "imprints" that seem to be the rage these days, because I'm just unable to tell if they've finished doing those stories, or they'll continue under a different title, or what. It's like the whole system is set up to be as infuriatingly byzantine as humanly possible.

Sincerely, Scott "-enkainen" Casper Hi Scott, Glad you think the mighty ax wielding wooden giant, Log is kind of cool. It will be printed on classic pulp comic paper - it has too! I want the book to feel just like those classic Marvel, DC comics from the seventies and eighties. With that newspaper quality type paper. It's gonna be awesome! Actually, it makes the cover price a little more expensive with the pulp paper. I guess because they don't use it that much nowadays. All the comics are printed on white slick glossy paper, which is fine. But the Legends of Log comic is a throwback to the earlier years of comics. That's the reason why I'm having the Kickstarter, to lower the price of the book so that's it's more reasonable to buy at a good price. If you like Conan the Barbarian, Kull the Destroyer, Sword of Sorcery and DnD pathfinder comics and what not. You might like this. The only thing that might seem strange is that this barbarian is a giant log with an ax. Thanks Scott, have any more questions just ask.

I am usually not a fan of US-format comics (32 pgs per issue, endless runs), but the Northlanders series from Vertigo was perhaps the best outing that loose takes on the medieval age got on comics. Even wrote a review for Havard's blog, back in the day: blackmoormystara.blogspot.de/2010/01/northlanders.html

It's not S&S, but it's pulp fantasy, essentially. Influenced my take on fantasy considerably.

Never read Northlanders series from Vertigo. I'll have to check into this, maybe get some old copies if available.
