Hey, all,
I'm doing a kickstarter to fund the self-publishing of my second novel, entitled The First Battle. This is intended to be book one in my forthcoming series, The Chronicles of Charlie Morning and Mr. Night.
Here's the sales blurb from the kickstarter, and some background about me for those who don't know me very well:
Becky Bradford doesn't cry anymore...not even when Tommy Meyers and his gang get rough. Becky knows things. She knows, for example, that Tommy is not really a boy at all, but a Bogie working for an evil faerie prince.
Becky has been chosen as champion in an age-old battle between two primal beings, princes of Fae: one a force of light and the other of eternal darkness. The prize in this game is tied to the fate of all the children on Earth, and Becky isn't the first to be called to this fight. She will, however, be the last, one way or the other; her only hope is to band together with past champions and somehow get help from her best friend, Charlie Morning, who has disappeared. The biggest problem is that Charlie Morning is just Becky's imaginary friend...
The First Battle: The Chronicles of Charlie Morning and Mr. Night Book One is a love letter to children's fantasy fiction. A novel for both teens and adults, it takes us on a classic hero's journey through lands both alien and familiar at once. While the themes and lands explored in this book are somewhat original, future volumes in this planned seven-book series will take our heroine to more familiar places like Wonderland, Looking-Glass Land, Oz, and Neverland, all with a dark twist--these books explore what happens to the lands of classic faerie stories and fantasy fiction when the children that love them eventually leave.
Self-publishing has become a hot issue lately, with more and more authors every day bypassing the traditional, legacy-model of publishing in favor of ebook self-publishing from services like Amazon. I'm looking to use kickstarter to launch mine not only into e-publishing through Kindle, Nook, iPad and other formats, but in print as well, as a paperback novel. The funds from this kickstarter will cover such things as printing costs, layout, formatting, ISBN numbers and bar codes, as well as advertizing and efforts to land distribution.
About me: I am a long time writer in the tabletop roleplaying industry, having published books for Palladium Books' Nightbane line, Eden Studios All Flesh Must Be Eaten line, Misfit Studios, Troll Lord Games (an adventure for StarSIEGE, Contributor to the Castles & Crusades Castle Keepers Guide, and author of the Amazing Adventures Role Playing Game), Cubicle 7 (Contributor to the forthcoming UNIT sourcebook for Doctor Who: Adventures in Time and Space), and others, including my own Spellcraft and Swordplay, published by Elf Lair Games, a subsidiary of my own Elf Lair Publishing, which this novel will also launch.
My first novel, the mythic adult urban fantasy Broken Gods, was published in 2011 by Reliquary Press and is currently in its second printing (it is available direct from the publisher or in ebook format from iTunes, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble).
What I am trying to do is line up some support and get some word of mouth going before the kickstarter goes live (which hopefully will happen within the next week or two). So is anyone here willing to back this effort?
Also, not to be rude, but there's really no need to post to tell me you're not interested; that doesn't actually accomplish anything here. I'm looking to see how many are willing to support, not who isn't and why.
Thanks!
