As I've alluded to the alpha rules for my game Hurled into Eternity are finally ready (gulp). As you'll eventually read on the very last page the rules have been a long time coming, in fact they started out as rules for a traditional fantasy RPG in late 1995/early 1996! So with that said I look forward to the criticism and hopefully helpful suggestions. If it sucks that's not very helpful feedback, how I can make it better is helpful feedback. There are some things I'm still tinkering with and still need to make a character sheet. If there are things that are not clear (there are bound to be) or any artifacts from the original game let me know, I'm sure there are some as I'm probably mentally filling in a lot, but I think the core game is understandable. Still need to come up with a more western themed name for Initiative rather then the unimaginative title of "Who goes first?" I have a few points. Do you want them here or in PM?

Haven't read through it yet, but wanted to say I really like the cover and layout. Nice work.

Thanks. But by my standards that was just a slap dash job. I was the designer for 12 of the 13 issues of the Word of Hashut. Also 2 out of the 4 for Gold and Glory for Dogs of War. The issues of the Word of Hashut can be found here: www.chaos-dwarfs.com/webzine.php

Based on some feedback from revgunn I'm reworking the attribute generation section. Its the oldest section of the rules and I think I have a better idea for it, stay tuned.

UPDATE: 9-10-12 version 1.2.0 is now up. I've changed around the rules for attribute generation as well as cleaned up the distances and rates in the Movement section. Also clarified and simplified the rules for shotguns and their blast patterns.
There is also a rudimentary character sheet in it for use.

Awesome. Char Gen looks better.
We're going to run a session of this on Friday night. If we like it, we'll be converting my Guns of Brimstone campaign to these rules. I intend to do a session report. I'll keep you posted.

Sounds great I look forward to hearing about it. Also extend my thanks to your group for trying alpha rules, lord knows there are rough sections. Hopefully this release works even better.
I think the cleanup of the movement section was long overdue.
If you guys want let me know the names of the players and Judge or at least those you want to be known by and I'll include you guys under a section noting playtesters.
My only concern about the revised attributes generation (Method I currently) is the number of d10s that need to be rolled. I surmise that overall it shouldnt matter as for the most part character gen goes quick. I've kept the earlier method and may incorporate them into a future judge's supplement for alternate methods ala the 1st edition DMG.
Also watch out for shotguns! I've scaled them back again and they are still crazy lethal!
I read you obsidian portal link the other day too, nice game you have going there but one question; are you currently using Boot Hill? I ask because it's not readily apparent which rules set you are using. EDIT: Ahhh I see you are using Boot Hill 3rd edition.
EDIT #2: To all - I was able to plow through a good chunk of the text making it read better; as a result version 1.2.1 should be up by Thursday night.

New version up with more editing.

Next version will be up shortly. This revision is a big jump as it gets core mechanics down to a deck of cards and d100. I'm still trying to eliminate a few d4 and d6 checks. The d6s might need to stay as its too useful.
Crazy considering when I started this game it was based on d12.

I've read through parts and like what I see so far, but obviously haven't had a chance to do a playtest shake-down.
It's more different from BH then I had expected. I'm not saying that's good or bad ... just an observation.

Yep. As I started looking at the rules of BH, it became apparent just how incomplete BH was/is.
So my next thought was to flesh out the BH rules and consolidate the extra rules in the first three modules. Problem became that even that still leaves an incomplete game. As noted in my rules and elsewhere on the web I dusted off my off again on again RPG from the mid 90s and started changing it.
The process was easy (still took 3 months) as the first step was to delete anything that didn't fit a western RPG.
Right now I'm fairly happy with the way the rules work. I think gunfights and rifles work well for combat. I'm less sure of dynamite shotguns, cannons, etc.

Version 1.3.0 is now up with changes to shotguns and the game using only d6s, d100 and a deck of cards. I'd say it streamlines things quite a bit.

Version 1.4 of the rules are now up. www.mediafire.com/view/?f17o7a9c3e0lpplIt's been bumped to Beta because most of the core concepts are now in place and work. In other words the mechanics of the game are doing well in internal testing.

Newest version is now up. Some internal changes and clearing up of rules for internal consistency. Next big part is editing. Anyone want to volunteer? Also in the interim for beginning the mammoth task of editing I created some better covers, albeit quick ones. www.mediafire.com/view/?w585nv5nxyc6v72

After a few hiccups I'm been busily working away on this. So far I've corrected a few logical flaws in the structure of the game. I think I'm finally at a place where I should not be changing this in terms of mechanics. www.mediafire.com/view/?a0jodpzz586jqxp

Ok the next version of this is up. I think I corrected a lot from the previous version from the great feedback I got. I have to go through a fine tooth comb to really look for issues. I did find a ton of artifacts from the previous incarnation of the rules which I had not corrected. Next up is some internal play-testing over the next week of so and a run through the rules. I'm literally drained after working through a lot of the rules, throwing stuff out, clarifying (I hope) and making things consistent (again I hope). www.mediafire.com/view/4bvb6mbcgvc171t/Hurled_into_Eternity_10.pdf

Been a busy bee working on the rules particularly the Wild Card System which I've changed a bit. I've been going through all of the gun-fighting styles in the combat section and noticed some spots where the Wild Card System would fall apart. I think I fixed the obvious problems. So far gun-fighting is looking very deadly with shotguns being perhaps to much. Anyways here is the latest revision: www.mediafire.com/view/p0kgj65ekjlsnpn/HCOR1-_Hurled_into_Eternity_12.pdf

I probably won't have time to do more than skim, and I wish I had a copy of Aces & Eights to compare with, but it looks impressive. I like the layout; very pro-looking.

Thanks for the compliments. Comments are always welcome.
As far as Aces and Eights I'd be curious too, never read it. I've seen the covers before but that's about it .
In the cases of Aces and Eights, Sidewinder, etc I've deliberately stayed away from them.

Ok, I should have the next revision on this up soon. I've focused on reducing complexity and making it even more streamlined shich I've done. A example of this is all measurements are done in squares/inches for ease of play. My goal is that by the end f the year it's ready to go to print.
